「IMAGINE.COFFEE」は、島根県松江市に店舗を構え、スペシャルティコーヒーを専門に焙煎しているコーヒーショップである。老若男女問わず、地元住民や観光客が数多く足を運び、茶の湯文化が根付く松江の賑わいスポットとなっている。〈IMAGINE.COFFEE SUNAGODA〉は、島根県出雲市に新たにオープンした、IMAGINE.COFFEEの新店舗の新築プロジェクトである。
敷地は、出雲を象徴する「北山」が連なる、雄大な出雲平野に位置し、敷地南の眼前には、桜並木が立ち並ぶ長閑な「緑地公園」の風景が広がっている。
〈IMAGINE.COFFEE SUNAGODA〉では、目の前に広がる緑地公園の心地よさを最大限享受しながら、地域の人々が気軽にコーヒーを楽しめる場となるよう、建築は東西へ細長いシンプルな木造平屋の構造・仕上げとし、公園の中に佇む東屋のように、軒の深い切妻の屋根をもつ開放的で素朴な姿とした。
開口は南北とし、北面は開口を絞り、メインアプローチと北山への眺望を意識させ、南面は開口を連続して設け、公園への眺望と明るいカフェ空間を確保した。内外を仕切る建具は、現しとなった柱間へ素直に落とし込み、南面の建具のその先には、地盤から500mm程度もち上げた縁側を設け、深い軒の下で腰を掛け、コーヒーを飲みながら公園の風景を眺めることができる。
カフェ客席空間は、垂木を現しにした天井の高い空間の中に、コンクリートスラブの床にカウンター・窓辺のベンチを配置した「土間」と、縁側と床レベルを合わせたフローリングの上に、大きな楕円のテーブルを配置した「板間」からなる。床レベル・仕上げ、家具の形、柱・梁の配置といった最小限の操作によって、大きい気積の中に「土間」と「板間」といった雰囲気の異なる2つのエリアを生み出している。また、土間と板間の床段差の納まりも土台現しとし、全体として、建築の成り立ちが感覚的に分かるような構成としている。
この建築を通して、より多くの人びとが、「北山」への眺望や、「緑地公園」の長閑な風景といった、見落としてしまいがちな、何気ない身近な風景の豊かさや魅力と再び出会い、日常の中にあるささやかな美しさへと目を向ける契機となるようにという思いで、〈IMAGINE.COFFEE SUNAGODA〉を手掛けた。（須谷悠希）
A coffee store with a gabled roof that enjoys the comfort of green park to the fullest
IMAGINE.COFFEE is a coffee shop in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, specializing in roasting specialty coffees. The shop is visited by many residents and tourists, young and old, male and female, and has become a lively spot in Matsue, where the culture of the tea ceremony has taken root. IMAGINE.COFFEE SUNAGODA is a new construction project for a new store in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture.
The site is located in the magnificent Izumo Plain, where Kitayama, the symbol of Izumo, stands in a row, and a quiet “Green Park” with rows of cherry blossom trees stretches in front of the south of the site.
IMAGINE.COFFEE SUNAGODA” will be a place where residents can casually enjoy a cup of coffee while taking full advantage of the comfort of green park spread out before them. The building has an open and rustic appearance with deep eaves and a gabled roof, like a pavilion in a park.
The north side of the building has a narrower opening to allow for the main approach and a view of the north mountain, while the south side has a series of openings to allow for a view of the park and a bright café space. The fittings that divide the interior and exterior are placed between the exposed pillars, and beyond the fittings on the south facade is a porch raised 500mm above the ground level, where one can sit under the deep eaves and enjoy the view of the park while drinking a cup of coffee.
The café seating area consists of a high-ceilinged space with exposed rafters, an “earthen floor” with a counter and window benches on a concrete slab floor, and a large oval table on the flooring that matches the floor level of the porch. Minimal manipulation of the floor level and finish, the shape of the furniture, and the placement of the columns and beams create two areas with different atmospheres, “Doma” and “Itama,” within a large air volume. The difference in floor level between the earthen floor and the wooden floor is also made to appear as a foundation so that the structure as a whole can be understood sensitively.
We hope that through this building, more people will be able to appreciate the richness and charm of familiar landscapes that are often overlooked, such as the view of Kitayama and the tranquil scenery of green park, and that they will be inspired to look at the small beauties that exist in everyday life.
