子育て世代で賑わい、地域の集いの場となるカフェ

中国上海、居住区の小学校前に立つキオスクのようなカフェ。

2000年前後に開発された居住区の一角、高層マンションの低層部に設けられたカフェの設計である。カフェの正面には小学校があり、周囲には集合住宅が立ち並んでいる。中国では両親や祖父母が子供を小学校に送り迎えすることが一般的で、登下校時には校門前が家族で賑わう。この子育て世代が多い地域の特性を設計に取り入れた。

外立面は折れ戸で構成され、室内を完全に開放できるようにした。中心にはケーキのような形状の三角形カウンターを設置し、その上に鉄板製のドーム屋根を載せた。売店のような外観は遠くからでも目立ち、小学校と同じ珊瑚色で仕上げ、親しみやすさをもたせている。室内の壁には、建物外壁の水平パターンをベニア板に変換して取り込み、木の水平線はメニュー置きやドアの取手として利用される。入口脇には鏡を設置し、店内奥の席からも通りの様子が見えるようにしている。

登校時には子供を送り出した人々で賑わい、下校時には子供をもつ人々が集まり、週末には子連れの家族で溢れる、地域の集いの場となっている。（松下晃士）

A cafe that attracts the child-rearing generation and serves as a gathering place for the community

A kiosk-like cafe is standing in front of an elementary school in a residential area in Shanghai, China.

The café was designed in the corner of a residential area developed around 2000, in the low-rise part of a high-rise apartment building. In front of the café is an elementary school, surrounded by a row of housing complexes. In China, it is common for parents and grandparents to take their children to and from elementary school, and the area in front of the school gate is crowded with families on their way to and from school. The design incorporates the characteristics of a room with many families raising children.

The exterior elevation consists of folding doors that open the interior thoroughly. A triangular counter shaped like a cake was placed in the center, topped by a dome roof of steel plates. The shop-like exterior stands out from a distance and is finished in the same coral color as the elementary school, giving it a friendly appearance. The horizontal pattern of the building’s exterior walls was converted into veneer boards for the interior walls, and the horizontal lines of the wood were used as menu boards and door handles. A mirror is placed by the entrance so people can see the street from the seats in the back of the restaurant.

The restaurant is a gathering place for the community, crowded with people dropping off their children on their way to school, people with children on their way home, and families with children on the weekends. (Akihito Matsushita)
