日本の景気の減衰とともに地方の宴会場の需要は年々減少していたなか、2019年からCOVID-19が流行し、宴会需要はほぼなくなった。 そこで、オーナーは宴会場を客室としてリノベーションできないかと考えた。旅館の宴会場を客室に、客室をレストランにリノベーションするプロジェクト。
客室は宴会場であったことから天井は高く、低層階にあるため眼下には春来川を臨む。それらの条件から、圧倒的な開放感を実現するため、床のレベルを外に向かって徐々に高くすることで視線を自然と上に向け、空を眺められるよう誘導することにした。奥に進むとサッシは当然低くなり、それが春来川を見下ろす視線になり新たな感覚を得られる。高低差を生かし、開放性と川床感を演出した。
家具はソファと小上がりを同じ高さにすることで、和の寛ぎと洋の快適性を地続きで両立した。 客室には源泉を引き込み、存分に外を感じられるビューバスとした。
「お食事処 おりおり」はエントランスを外部と見立て、一本通した動線に庇を出す構成とした。通りからは厨房が眺められるライブキッチンとし、料理人とコミュニケーションしながら客席にアプローチするようにした。
客席は動線を川の流れに合わせた3つのゾーンとした。白い「折りスクリーン」に囲まれた、賑わいを感じられる「LIVE ZONE」。帯を「折り」曲げ、水の溜まりを表現し、落ち着きのある空間を作った「CALM ZONE」。湧出する泡に包まれるような柔らかな空間の「GUSH ZONE」。
川の流れと動線を重ね、コンセプトを一貫することで、このホテルの特徴をより強化した空間構成になったと思う。（杤尾直也）
A hotel with guest rooms overlooking the river in a renovated banquet hall
While the demand for banquet halls in rural areas had been declining year by year along with Japan’s economic decay, COVID-19 2019 became a pandemic, and the demand for banquet halls almost disappeared. Therefore, the owner thought it would be possible to renovate the banquet halls as guest rooms.
The guest rooms have high ceilings from its former use as a banquet hall, and are located on a lower floor, overlooking the Haruki River below. Based on these conditions, in order to achieve an overwhelming sense of openness, we decided to raise the level of the floor gradually toward the outside so that the line of sight would naturally be directed upwards, leading to the sky. As you go further inside, the sash naturally lowers, and it becomes a line of sight overlooking the Haruki River, giving you a new sensation. Taking advantage of the difference in elevation, we produced an openness and a feeling of the riverbed.
By making the furniture the same height as the sofa, we have achieved both the relaxation of the Japanese style and the comfort of the Western style. The guest room has a bath with a view that draws in the source and allows you to fully feel the outside.
”Restaurant Oriori” uses the entrance as an exterior, with an eaves extending over a single flow line. The kitchen is a live kitchen that can be viewed from the street, and guests can approach the audience while communicating with the chef.
The audience seats are divided into three zones that match the flow of the river that flows by the building. LIVE ZONE is a space where you can enjoy the dynamism that reminds you of white waves and the live kitchen that can be seen beyond, creating a screen with white unevenness by “folding” the triaxial fabric. CALM ZONE expresses a water basin (a place where the river flows gently and the water is deep) by “folding” the walls and creating a calm space. The room is impressive, with a gate. GOSH ZONE connects the walls and ceiling with a curved surface to increase the sense of unity, creating a soft space that seems to be wrapped in gushing water bubbles. By plastering seamlessly, the softness of the curved surface is expressed more strongly. (Naoya Tochio)
