木造2階建ての2世帯住宅である。敷地の南側は市街化調整区域の水田や畑が広がり、広大で豊かな自然に面している。また敷地の北側は住宅地のゆったりとした街並みに面し、河川の緑地や遠くの山並みを望むことができる。
1階を親世帯、2階を子世帯の住まいとすることが与条件であったが、敷地は第1種低層住居専用地域で面積も十分ではなく、限られた広さの中に2世帯の家族が快適に暮らせる住空間をいかにつくるかが問われる計画となった。
1、2階ともに、主な生活の場となるリビングを最大限に広くとり、天井を高くして南北に大きな開口を設け、豊かな外部環境に開かれた開放的な場所とした。また寝室や水回りとなる個室群をリビングの西側に沿ってコンパクトにまとめ、それぞれの場所がリビングにダイレクトにつながるようにした。建物東側に並ぶ構造壁の間には棚板を設けてリビングに面する長大な壁収納とし、さまざまな趣味のモノを並べて住空間に彩りを与えるスペースとした。
2階の個室空間は、床面積に算入されないロフトと床下収納を設けてオープンで多目的な場所とし、狭いスペースの中でもストレスを感じることなく楽しく生活できるように、起伏のある床を立体的に構成した。1階のリビングに面するエントランスは、店舗のファサードのように街に対して広く開き、近隣とのつながりが親密になることを期待した。
住空間を以上のような「開放的なリビング・コンパクトな個室群・長大な壁収納」による3層の平面構成とし、それらの場所を自在に行き来できるようにすることで、2世帯の家族が日々の生活を楽しみながら快適に暮らせるように考えた。（彦坂昌宏）
A three-dimensional two-family house composed of three levels of planes
It is a two-family, two-story wooden house. The south side of the site faces a vast and rich natural environment of rice paddies and fields in the Urbanization Control Area. To the north, the house faces a relaxing residential neighborhood, with views of the river and mountains in the distance.
The first floor was to be occupied by the parents and the second by the children. Still, the site was in a Category 1 exclusive district for low-rise residential buildings, so the plan called for the creation of a comfortable living space for the two families within the limited space available.
On both the first and second floors, the living room, which is the main living space, was made as large as possible, with high ceilings and large openings from north to south, creating an open space that is open to the rich external environment. The bedrooms and private rooms are compactly arranged along the west side of the living room, and each room is directly connected to the living room. Shelves were placed between the structural walls on the east side of the building to create a long wall storage space facing the living room, where various hobbies and interests can be displayed to add color to the living space.
The loft and under-floor storage, which are not counted in the floor area, was added to the second floor to make it an open and versatile space, and the undulating floor was structured three-dimensionally so that even in a small space, residents can enjoy living without feeling stress. The entrance facing the living room on the first floor opens widely to the town like the facade of a store and is expected to create an intimate connection with the neighborhood.
The living space is composed of three levels with an open living room, compact private rooms, and a large wall storage space, and the two families can move freely between these areas to enjoy their daily lives and live comfortably. (Masahiro Hikosaka)
