大分県宇佐市に建つ、夫婦と子のための住宅である。出産を機に自然豊かで静かな環境で子育てを行うために、新築住宅の計画が始まった。宇佐平野に位置する平坦なこの地域は、役所や小学校、病院が徒歩圏内にあるため利便性がよく、近年田畑を埋め立て新築住宅が建ち始めている。敷地北側は、近年整備された都市計画公園や昔ながらの田畑風景が広がる自然豊かな環境であるが、南側は造成により地盤レベルが1m高く住宅が密集しており、特に南隣家からの見下ろしの視線が気になった。
この自然と住宅地が切り替わる場所で、家族のプライバシーを守りながら、いかにして外部環境を享受するかが焦点となった。
そこでまず、家族の安全を担保するために、最低限の窓を孔けた壁で内部を囲み周囲から閉じた。次に、公園の大きなスケールを受け止めるため敷地の長手方向いっぱいに切妻の大屋根を掛けた。これにより、プライバシーを守りながら、壁に屋根を載せることで生まれる屋根形状に沿ったヴォイドから光が降り注ぐ明るい内部をつくった。大きな気積をもつワンルーム（LDK）に対し、個室（子供室、WC、納戸など）や間仕切り壁を小さなスケールで点在させ、その間を建具で分割せずに曖昧な場を繋げることで光や風を共有する。加えて、個室の天井は吹き抜けや透明な素材とすることで、個室内も光を精一杯享受した。
一方、プライバシー性の高い寝室は、南隣家からのリビングへの視線を遮るために、LDKから小さな切妻を伸ばすことでワンルームに対し離れのような落ち着く小さな空間とした。
また、構造的合理性から南北方向に3,640mmピッチで柱を落とす架構とした。ポーチはBBQや洗車などが可能なまとまったスペースが求められたため、内部と同様に同ピッチで柱を落とし、約5×7mの屋根の掛かったスペースを確保した。
大屋根の下にヒューマンスケールの個室が点在する空間は、外部のような大らかさをもちながら居心地のよい住宅となった。（室宏）
A house with human-scale private rooms scattered in the large volume of the gable roof
The house was built for a couple and their child in Usa City, Oita Prefecture. Planning for the new house began after the birth of a child, and it was to raise the child in a quiet environment rich in nature. Located in the Usa Plain, this flat area is conveniently located within walking distance of the municipal office, elementary school, and hospital, and in recent years, new houses have begun to be constructed by reclaiming fields. The north side of the site is a rich natural environment with a recently developed city planning park and traditional rice field landscape, but on the south side, the ground level is 1m higher due to land development and houses are densely built up, and we were particularly concerned about the line of sight looking down from the south neighbor’s house.
The project focused on protecting the family’s privacy and enjoying the outside environment in this location where nature and residential areas switch.
First, to ensure the family’s safety, the interior was enclosed by walls with minimum windows and closed off from the surrounding area. Next, a large gable roof was hung over the entire site to accommodate the large scale of the park. This creates a bright interior with light pouring in through the voids along the roof shape created by placing the roof on the wall while protecting the residents’ privacy. The large volume of one room (LDK) is interspersed with private rooms (children’s room, WC, closet, etc.) and partition walls on a small scale, and light and air are shared by connecting the ambiguous spaces without dividing them with fittings. In addition, the ceilings of the private rooms are vaulted and made of transparent materials, so the rooms enjoy light as much as possible.
On the other hand, the bedroom, which has a high degree of privacy, was made into a small space with a small gable extending from the LDK to block the view to the living room from the neighboring house to the south, making it a small and relaxing space that resembles a detached house.
From a structural rationality point of view, the building is constructed with columns dropped at a pitch of 3,640mm in the north-south direction. The porch was required to be a cohesive space for BBQ and car washing, so the same pitch of columns was dropped as in the interior to secure a space with a roof of approximately 5 x 7 m. The porch is a large space with a human scale under the large roof.
