上水沿いの家 / ことこと設計室

大きな気積のなか、床高の差が場を定義する職住一体住宅

自然環境豊かな玉川上水沿いに計画した職住一体となる小さな住宅。
散歩やランニングなどで1日中人通りが多い上水沿い緑道からの視線を遮断しながらも、自然環境との繋がりを感じられる落ち着きのある内部空間にしたい、相反する2つの要件。開きながらもプライバシーが保たれた空間とするにはどうすべきか、毎度頭を悩ませられる問題である。
また、計画地は風致地区内にあるため壁面後退と一定面積の緑化が義務付けられている。さらに、必要となる駐車スペースなどを考慮したうえで導き出される建物のフットプリントは、夫婦それぞれのワークスペースを求められる本計画を構成するために必要となる諸室に対して十分ではなかった。

限られた空間の中で必要となる各スペースを定義するために、天井が高く仕切りのない大きな一室空間を高さが異なる3つの床（土間＋床下収納・LDK・小上り）からなるスキップフロアで構成する。夫婦それぞれの仕事の居場所とプライベートの居場所を確保しつつ、それぞれに見えない境界をつくった。繋がっているけれど、ちょっとだけ離れている。ほどよい距離感がいい感じ。

土間から半階もち上がったLDKからは、眼下に土間と板塀で囲われた内庭を見下ろすことになる。これにより外部からの視線をほどよく遮断しながらも、電線などの人工物が目に入らない上水沿いの自然への視線の抜けを獲得。プライバシーを確保しながら1年を通して上水沿いの自然の変化を楽しめる、豊かな居住環境とすることに成功した。（小林敏也）

A live-work residence defined by floor height variations within a large volume

A small residence designed for integrated living and working along the Tamagawa Josui canal, rich in natural surroundings.
The conflicting requirements: creating a calm interior space that feels connected to nature while shielding it from the constant foot traffic along the canal’s greenway—a popular spot for walking and running all day. How to achieve an open yet private space is a problem that always gives me a headache.
Furthermore, the site is located within a scenic preservation district, which mandates wall setbacks and a designated area of greenery. Given the required parking space and other constraints, the resulting building footprint proved insufficient to accommodate the couple’s respective workspaces, a key requirement of this project.

To define the necessary spaces within the limited area, a large, open room with high ceilings was created using a split-level floor plan with three different floor heights (mudroom + underfloor storage, LDK, raised platform). This established separate work and private zones for each spouse while creating invisible boundaries between them. Connected, yet slightly apart. That just-right distance feels perfect.

From the LDK, raised half a level above the earthen floor, one looks down upon the earthen floor and the inner courtyard enclosed by wooden fencing. This design effectively screens external views while preserving sightlines to the natural landscape along the waterway, shielding views from unsightly elements such as power lines. The result is a rich living environment that safeguards privacy while allowing year-round enjoyment of the changing natural scenery along the waterway. (Toshiya Kobayashi)
