緑豊かな土地に本社工場を構える、タイルメーカー本社オフィスの改修計画。
倉庫は、ハイサイドライトが象徴的にトラスの軸線を照らし、床には使用と補修の履歴が重なり既設の連続窓のガラスの光を鈍く反射していた。営業に差し支えない最大の面積を新オフィスに充て、環境のよい窓辺エリアをオフィス、奥側の空間を共用室とし、工場連続窓に対し3列5つのフレームを配置した。
フレームに工事範囲を絞ることで、建設費・ランニングコストを低減した。既設空間にフレームを挿入するにあたっては、既設の柱ピッチの2等分線を縦糸に、新しい3列のフレームを横糸にグリッドを引き、新旧の構造を調和して既設空間や工場連続窓に対して美しく配置した。
梁下で極力高さをとったフレームの高さ寸法は、縦糸の寸法と美しい比率となった。また、トラス梁の軸線をオフィスへのアプローチに見立てて通路を通すことで、3列5つのフレームの配置となった。
床には自社製品のタイル、柱は東濃桧、壁も地場産桧合板で仕上げ時間と共にエイジングしていくものとした。3列5つのフレームは床のタイルを照らしながら、新しい窓は工場連続窓の風景を奥へと映して複雑で重層的なシークエンスを生み出している。
既存の空間を読み込み、その要素を象徴的に取り扱うことで、調和しながら相互に引き立て合う、新しい美しさを生み出した。この方法は施設の改修のみならず、建築主が目指す街並みの更新や創出にも繋がるものと考えている。

An office where the harmony of old and new grids permeates the space
Renovation plan for the headquarters office of a tile manufacturer, whose main factory is located on lush green land.
The warehouse featured high side lights that symbolically illuminated the truss axes. At the same time, the floor, layered with traces of use and repairs, dully reflected light from the existing continuous window panes. The new office maximized usable space without disrupting sales operations, allocating the largest possible area. The well-lit window areas became offices, while the rear space was designated as a shared room. Three rows of five frames were installed facing the factory’s continuous windows.
By limiting the construction scope to the frames, both construction costs and ongoing operational costs were reduced. When inserting the frames into the existing space, a grid was drawn with the bisection lines of the existing column spacing as the vertical threads and the new three rows of frames as the horizontal threads. This harmonized the old and new structures, resulting in an aesthetically pleasing arrangement that complemented the existing space and the factory’s continuous windows.
The height dimension of the frames, maximized under the beams, achieved a beautiful ratio with the vertical thread dimensions. Furthermore, by treating the truss beam axis as an approach to the office and routing a passageway through it, the arrangement of three rows and five frames was established.
The floor features the company’s own tiles, the columns are made of Tono cypress, and the walls are finished with locally sourced cypress plywood, all designed to age gracefully over time. The three rows of five frames illuminate the floor tiles, while the new windows reflect the factory’s continuous windows into the depths, creating a complex, layered sequence.
By interpreting the existing space and symbolically incorporating its elements, a new beauty emerged—one that harmonizes while mutually enhancing each component. We believe this approach extends beyond facility renovation, contributing to the client’s vision of urban renewal and creation.
