富山市の中心市街地から南へ徒歩3分の「花水木通り」に建つ、4住戸（設計者の自邸、両親の住戸、賃貸住戸2戸）の長屋に店舗とシェアスペースを併設した複合建築である。花水木通りは静かな住宅地ではあるが、個性際立つ飲食店や店舗が集まる、商業と住居が混在する通りである。
建物を通りからセットバックし駐車スペースを設けると、敷地面積活用の点からは効率よく駐車台数を増やしやすい。。一方で、建物は通りから分断されてしまう。そこで本計画では、駐車スペースを敷地奥に配置し、その手前に生まれた車路を「広場路（ヒロバロ）」と名付けた。自動車から導かれたスケールの広がりは住宅と隣り合うと独特な解放感を生み、心地よい広場のようにも感じられる。
来街者は各店舗で用事を済ませるだけであったが、広場路とシェアスペースを街の共用部として誰もが使える庭のような位置づけとすることで、この地域での滞在時間が長くなり、店舗間の行き来が生まれると考えた。街と敷地の境界線を曖昧にすることを考えた計画である。花水木ノ庭の第1期工事として、今後は隣地への展開も視野に入れている。

Located on “Hanamizuki Street,” a three-minute walk south of downtown Toyama City, this mixed-use building consists of a row house with four residential units (the architect’s own home, his parents’ home, and two rental units), along with a retail space and a shared common area. Although Hanamizuki Street is a quiet residential area, it is a mixed-use street where distinctive restaurants and shops are clustered.
Setting the building back from the street to create parking spaces allows for an efficient increase in the number of parking spots in terms of lot area utilization. However, this also isolates the building from the street. Therefore, in this project, the parking spaces were placed at the rear of the lot, and the driveway created in front of them was named “Hiroba-ro” (Square Road). The sense of scale created by the driveway, when adjacent to the residences, produces a unique feeling of openness, making it feel like a pleasant public square.
Previously, visitors would run their errands at the various shops and leave. However, by positioning the Hiroba-ro and the shared spaces as communal areas—like a garden open to everyone—we anticipated that people would spend more time in the neighborhood and move more freely between the shops. This plan was designed to blur the boundaries between the street and the property. As the first phase of the Hanamizuki Garden project, we are now considering expanding into the adjacent lot.
