長崎の風景を取り込んだ新時代のコワーキングスペース 本計画は、JAPANET HOLDINGSが主導する「長崎スタジアムシティプロジェクト」内に誕生した新時代のコワーキングスペース〈WORK@NAGASAKI〉である。サッカースタジアムを中心にアリーナ、ホテル、商業施設、オフィスを備えたこの大規模複合開発の一角に位置し、県内外の企業を誘致することを目的とし、長崎最大級のオフィス棟の中に計画された。設計はUCHIDA SHANGHAIの庄司光宏を中心に、牧野恭久建築設計事務所の牧野恭久、OU-A Co., Ltdの林誠が担当した。
南にスタジアム、東に長崎特有の斜面地住宅、西に稲佐山、北には川沿いに広がる視線の先に平和公園と、長崎の魅力が凝縮された地に、まさに新たな都市の中心としてふさわしいロケーションが広がる。私たちは、「新しいクリエイティビティ」「新しいもてなし」「新しい建築」のあり方をテーマに掲げ、長崎という歴史と多様性を内包する土地において、単なる消費的なデザインに留まらない、新しい空間の定義を試みた。ここから世界へ羽ばたく人材とビジネスを育む場としての創造を目指した。
異文化を受け入れながら独自の建築様式を発展させてきた長崎。その空気感を大切にしながら、地元の建築様式やテクスチャをフィールドワークから抽出し、デザインに取り込んだ。素材選定においては、土地に根ざした本物の建材を積極的に採用。装飾的な表層を排除し、素材そのものがもつ質感を活かした設計とした。不均質で揺らぎのある仕上げは、自然や街並みの中にある心地良さを空間に反映させている。そして、この地の風景は来訪者にとっての創造性の源となると確信し、室内から風景を取り込むようにレイアウトを設計。外部環境との連続性を重視し、コワーキングの場に新たな開放感をもたらした。空間は、利用者が自身の働き方や時間、季節に応じて最適な場所を選べるように構成されている。集中できる個人ブース、多人数での協働を想定したコラボレーションスペースなど、多様なシーンに応える空間構成がなされている。
最先端でありながら、どこか懐かしさを感じさせる。長崎という風土そのものを感じるような、大らかな空間を目指した。

A coworking space woven with the spirit of Nagasaki
A New-Era Coworking Space Incorporating Nagasaki’s Scenery. This project is WORK@NAGASAKI, a new-era coworking space born within the “Nagasaki Stadium City Project” led by JAPANET HOLDINGS. Located within this large-scale mixed-use development centered around a soccer stadium and featuring an arena, hotel, commercial facilities, and offices, it was planned within Nagasaki’s largest office building to attract companies from both within and outside the prefecture. The design was led by Mitsuhiro Shoji of UCHIDA SHANGHAI, with contributions from Yasuhisa Makino of Makino Yasuhisa Architects and Makoto Hayashi of OU-A Co., Ltd.
Its location, truly befitting a new urban center, offers a condensed view of Nagasaki’s charm: the stadium to the south, Nagasaki’s characteristic sloped residential areas to the east, Mount Inasa to the west, and Peace Park stretching along the river to the north. We embraced the themes of “new creativity,” “new hospitality,” and “new architecture.” In Nagasaki, a land rich in history and diversity, we sought to define a new kind of space that transcends mere consumerist design. We aimed to create a place that nurtures talent and business, ready to spread their wings to the world.
Nagasaki is a city that has developed its own architectural style while embracing diverse cultures. We carefully preserved this atmosphere, extracting local architectural forms and textures through fieldwork and integrating them into the design. In material selection, we actively adopted authentic, locally sourced building materials. We eliminated decorative surfaces, designing to highlight the inherent texture of the materials themselves. The uneven, subtly shifting finishes reflect the comfort found in nature and the cityscape within the space. We designed the layout to draw the landscape into the interior, confident that this scenery would become a source of creativity for visitors. Emphasizing continuity with the external environment, we brought a new sense of openness to the coworking space. The space is structured so users can choose the optimal location according to their work style, time, and season. It features diverse spatial configurations to accommodate various scenarios, including private booths for concentration and collaboration spaces designed for group work.
It is cutting-edge yet somehow nostalgic. We aimed for a spacious environment that evokes the very essence of Nagasaki’s unique character.
