博多と北九州の中間、福岡県遠賀郡岡垣町の田園地帯に建つ、医師とカウンセラー夫妻と2人の子のための住宅である。のどかな自然環境の中で子育てをしたいという思いからこの地を選び、妻の実家での原風景を手がかりに計画が始まった。
軒先で七輪を囲む半屋外の暮らし、二間続きの和室で培われた家族の距離感、そしてカーテンを閉めずに四季の風景を取り込む開放性。そうした記憶と要望が設計の核となっている。キッチンや寝室、水回り、書斎などを壁で囲みながら緩やかに配置し、その隙間を家族共有のパブリックゾーンとした。
現在では地域住民がリビングに集まり、話し合いの場としても使われるなど、公共的な役割も担う。かつて縁側から人が訪れたように、LDKから縁側、そして田園へと続く空間が人と風景を繋ぎ、田園の風と光を五感で感じる穏やかな暮らしを育んでいる。

A gabled house connecting my private space to the public realm and beyond to the countryside
This residence stands in the rural landscape of Okagaki Town, Onga District, Fukuoka Prefecture, midway between Hakata and Kitakyushu. It was designed for a physician-counselor couple and their two children. They chose this location to raise their children amidst tranquil nature, drawing inspiration from the wife’s childhood memories of her family home.
The design centers on memories and requests: semi-outdoor living gathered around a charcoal grill under the eaves, the sense of family closeness cultivated in two adjoining Japanese-style rooms, and the openness that embraces the scenery of the four seasons without closing curtains. While enclosing the kitchen, bedrooms, utility areas, and study with walls, they are arranged loosely, creating shared public zones for the family in the spaces between.
Today, the living room also serves a public role, hosting discussions among residents. Just as people once visited from the veranda, the space flowing from the LDK to the veranda and out into the countryside connects people with the landscape, nurturing a tranquil life where the breeze and light of the fields are felt with all five senses.
