〈エターナル・ホライズン（Eternal Horizon）〉は、シュトゥットガルト、ロンドン、デリーに拠点を置く設計事務所 Studio Symbiosisがサウジアラビアに設計した、同国の豊かな文化的遺産と最先端のテクノロジーを融合したモニュメントです。

メビウスの輪に着想を得た流動的なループ構造には風力タービンが組み込まれており、再生可能エネルギーを生み出すだけでなく、モニュメントに動的な要素を加えます。

サウジアラビアの豊かな文化的遺産に根ざした〈エターナル・ホライズン〉は、伝統的な幾何学模様と書道のモチーフを現代的なパラメトリックデザインとして再解釈し、芸術、建築、技術の境界を曖昧にする。

その流動的な曲線は、うねる砂漠の景観と果てしない地平線から着想を得ており、静寂と動きの対話を体現している。これは、連続性と文化的進化の本質を捉えた彫刻的形態である。

メビウスの輪に着想を得た〈エターナル・ホライズン〉は、無限がもつ永遠性と境界なき性質を体現している。表面、構造、そして空間が単一の流動的な実体へと収束する、連続的な空間のループとして現れるこの形態は、内と外、実体と虚空の境界を融解させ、統一と変容を象徴する永続的な空間連続性を創出する。

このモニュメントは、静的な記念碑という従来の概念を超越し、鑑賞者の視点の移動と共に変化する、没入型の建築的体験へと進化させる。その動的な曲面は光と影、そして動きを捉え、あらゆる角度から新たな空間の解釈を提示する。このパラメトリックな形態を通じて、〈エターナル・ホライズン〉は単なる観察対象に留まらず、無限の流れと相互のつながりを示す、生き生きとした表現となっている。

デザインを構成する5つのエレメント

• 形態：〈エターナル・ホライズン〉には、無限と途切れることのない時間の流れを象徴する、連続的なループ構造を採用した。この継ぎ目のない形態は、統一、連続、進歩の建築的メタファーとして機能し、永続的な進化の思想を反映している。
• 表面：反射性のある金属表面は周囲の砂漠の景観を映し出し、物体と環境の境界を曖昧にする。こうして有限と無限を融合させ、光や視点によって移り変わる、果てしない地平線の錯覚を生み出す。
• 風力タービン：構造体の内部には、この地域に常に吹く風を利用するため、一連の風力タービンが組み込まれている。再生可能エネルギーを発電するという機能的な役割を超えて、これらの運動要素は彫刻がもつ動的な動きと視覚的に共鳴し、芸術、自然、技術の間の対話をより強固なものにしている。
• アラビア書道：古典詩や精神的なテキストに由来する精緻なアラビア書道が、ループの下面をなぞるように配されている。永遠、統一、継続性を喚起するこれらの銘文は、文化的遺産を現代的なパラメトリック形態へと織り込み、伝統と現代性の融合を創出している。
• 照明：タービンで発電されたエネルギーで駆動する省電力のLED照明が、昼から夜へと彫刻の姿を変容させる。昼間に見せる繊細な光の反射は、日没後には柔らかな輝きへと変化し、ランドマークとしての、そして革新の象徴としての存在感を高める。

Rooted in Saudi Arabia’s rich cultural heritage, The Eternal Horizon reimagines traditional geometries and calligraphic motifs through a contemporary parametric expression, blurring the boundaries between art, architecture, and technology. Its fluid curvature draws from the undulating desert landscapes and the endless horizon, embodying a dialogue between stillness and motion, a sculptural form that captures the essence of continuity and cultural evolution.

Furthermore, the sculpture manifests the enduring spirit of Saudi Arabia’s architectural and cultural identity, bridging tradition with innovation through form and material expression. Conceptually, it symbolizes the nation’s progressive trajectory, where vernacular heritage and contemporary design converge in spatial harmony. Its continuous, fluid geometry embodies notions of evolution and timelessness, reflecting an architectural dialogue between permanence and transformation. As an experiential form, it invites reflection on the coexistence of history and futurity, being a testament to a society that evolves forward while remaining deeply anchored in its origins.

Inspired by the Möbius band, Eternal Horizon embodies the timeless and boundless nature of infinity. The form manifests as a continuous spatial loop where surface, structure, and space converge into a singular, fluid entity. This seamless integration dissolves the distinction between inside and outside, solid and void that creates a perpetual spatial continuity that symbolizes unity and transformation. The sculpture transcends the conventional notion of a static monument, evolving instead into an immersive architectural experience that shifts with the viewer’s perspective. Its dynamic curvature engages light, shadow, and movement, ensuring that every angle reveals a new spatial reading. Form:
The sculpture adopts a continuous looping geometry, symbolizing infinity and the unbroken flow of time. This seamless form reflects the idea of perpetual evolution that is an architectural metaphor for unity, continuity, and progress.
Surface:
A reflective metallic surface, mirrors the surrounding desert landscape, blurring the boundary between object and environment. The sculpture thus merges the finite and infinite, creating the illusion of an endless horizon that shifts with light and perspective.
Wind Turbines:
Embedded within the structure, a series of integrated wind turbines harness the region’s prevailing winds. Beyond their functional role in generating renewable energy, these kinetic elements visually echo the sculpture’s dynamic motion, reinforcing the dialogue between art, nature, and technology.
Arabic Calligraphy:
