ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン設計〈M+〉の開館5周年を記念した展覧会「ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン：イン・フォーカス」を9月に開催
香港の西九龍文化区にヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン（Herzog & de Meuron）が2021年に設計した美術館〈M+〉にて、同事務所の軌跡に迫る開館5周年記念展「ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン：イン・フォーカス」が開催されます。
2026年9月12日（土）から2027年1月にかけて開催される本展覧会では、ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンから新たに寄贈された200点以上の貴重なアーカイブ資料が公開されます。

香港の西九龍文化区（WestK）に位置する、アジアを代表する現代視覚文化のグローバル美術館〈M+〉は、展覧会「ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン：イン・フォーカス（Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus）」を開催する。
9月に開幕するこの展覧会は、同館の開館5周年を記念するとともに、〈M+〉の建物を設計した世界的な建築事務所ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンによるM+コレクションへの重要な寄贈の第2弾を祝うものである。

過去20年の軌跡をたどる展覧会概要
本展では、ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンが2002年から2021年にかけて中国で手がけた〈M+〉や〈大館（Tai Kwun）〉、〈北京国家体育場（National Stadium in Beijing）〉などの10の主要プロジェクトを通じて、過去20年間にわたるヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンの進化し続けるビジョンをたどる。2026年9月12日（土）から2027年1月まで、〈M+〉のフォーカス・ギャラリーにて一般公開される。
2015年にジャック・ヘルツォーク（Jacques Herzog）とピエール・ド・ムーロン（Pierre de Meuron）が、研究と交流のための建築思想および知識の恒久的な保管庫として設立した財団「カビネット（Kabinett）」に着想を得た本展では、スイス・バーゼルにある同事務所のアーカイブ資料をオープンストレージ形式で保管するために開発された木製ショーケースのレプリカに、展示物を収めている。M+コレクションに寄贈された模型、図面、素材サンプル、プロトタイプの中から厳選された重要な作品を集めた「ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン：イン・フォーカス」は、同事務所の建築的想像力を形作る視点に深く迫るものである。

寄贈の背景と中国プロジェクトへのフォーカス
この寄贈は、2023年にヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンが〈M+〉に初めて寄贈した、通称「鳥の巣」として知られる〈北京国家体育場〉の断面模型に続くものである。この第2弾の寄贈により、M+コレクションは、模型、試作モデル、スケッチ、アーカイブ資料など200点以上の制作過程資料を新たに加えることとなった。
2000年代初頭以来、ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロンは、中国の急速な成長と都市の変容に深く、かつ継続的に関わり続け、美術館、学術機関、スポーツスタジアム、都市マスタープランなど、画期的な文化・公共プロジェクトに貢献してきた。「ヘルツォーク＆ド・ムーロン：イン・フォーカス」展では、中国における完成プロジェクトおよび未実現プロジェクト10件に焦点を当て、同事務所のこの地域への長年にわたる関与と、技術およびデザインの進化を映し出している。各プロジェクトは、敷地、素材、文化的文脈への対応という観点から検証され、独自の建築言語を明らかにし、その発展を促進している。

M+ receives the second phase of a significant donation from world-renowned architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron and announces Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus, a September exhibition celebrating M+’s fifth anniversary
(23 July 2026, Hong Kong) M+, Asia’s global museum of contemporary visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District (WestK) in Hong Kong, is proud to present Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus. Opening in September, this exhibition celebrates the museum’s fifth anniversary and marks the second phase of a significant donation to the M+ Collections by Herzog & de Meuron, the internationally renowned architectural firm that designed the M+ building.
The exhibition traces Herzog & de Meuron’s evolving vision over the last two decades through ten key projects in China dating from 2002 to 2021, including M+ (2012–2021) and Tai Kwun in Hong Kong (2006–2018), and the National Stadium in Beijing (2002–2008). It will open to the public in the M+ Focus Gallery from Saturday, 12 September 2026 to January 2027.
Inspired by the Kabinett—a foundation established in 2015 by Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron as a permanent repository of architectural thinking and knowledge for research and exchange—the exhibition displays its objects in replicas of the wooden vitrines developed for the firm’s open storage of archival holdings in Basel, Switzerland. Bringing together an important selection of models, drawings, material samples, and prototypes donated to the M+ Collection, Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus offers a closer look into the perspectives that shape the firm’s architectural imagination.
This donation builds on Herzog & de Meuron’s first gift to M+ in 2023 of a section model of the Beijing National Stadium (2002–2008), commonly known as the ‘Bird’s Nest’. This second phase expands the M+ Collection with over two hundred process materials, including models, prototypes, sketches, and archival items. Since the early 2000s, Herzog & de Meuron has maintained a deep and sustained engagement with China’s rapid growth and urban transformation, contributing to landmark cultural and civic projects including museums, academic institutions, sports stadiums, and city master plans. Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus spotlights ten built and unbuilt projects in China, reflecting the firm’s longstanding involvement with the region and its technological and design evolution. Each project is examined through its response to site, materials, and cultural context, revealing and advancing a distinct architectural language.

Herzog & de Meuron: In Focus is curated by Ikko Yokoyama, Senior Curator, Head of Design and Architecture, M+, supported by Iris Ng, Assistant Curator, Design and Architecture, M+. M+ will also organise an architecture tour throughout the exhibition period led by M+ Volunteer Guides. Visitors are invited to join and discover the museum’s distinctive architectural features and design highlights.
