「寄ってみたくなる」を表現した、猫と暮らす焼き菓子店併設の家

神奈川県厚木市の、駅からは少し離れた小鮎川のほとりに建つ、小さな焼き菓子屋さん兼住居。1階は菓子工房および店舗で半分以上の面積を使い、住宅としては玄関と水廻りがある。2階はすべて住居スペースで、夫婦と猫3匹が暮らしている。
かつて商店街に軒を連ねていた長屋の店舗兼用住宅という形式と違い、こうした郊外の住宅地の中にさまざまな用途の兼用住宅が点在していくような状況は、周辺の地域にとっても生活を豊かにする要素だと考えた。建築は店舗としてのアイコンになり、かつ、さりげなく地域に溶け込んでいけるよう、シンプルな切妻屋根の白いボリュームとした。店舗部分は通りの角に向かってやや距離をとって開き、存在は感じるけれど、押しつけがましい商売っ気は感じさせない。でも「今度寄ってみよう」と思えるような雰囲気を出している。

住居部分は人の生活はもとより、猫たちの暮らしも重要視している。走り回ることや爪とぎを想定しての塩ビタイルの床、落下防止ネット付きの階段手すり、ちょこんと座って外を見られるようにした窓台など、猫と人が共に生きていくのにささやかな仕掛けを施した。お菓子を買いに来る人の笑顔と相まって、この地域を豊かにする建築になることを期待している。（吉田裕一）

A baked confectionery store that expresses "I want to stop by" and a house living with a cat

It is a small baked confectionery shop and residence located on the banks of the Koayu River, a little away from the station in Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture. The first floor occupies more than half the area of the confectionery workshop and stores, and the house has an entrance and a water area. The second floor is a living space where a couple and three cats live. Unlike the Nagaya store-combined housing that used to be lined up in the shopping district, the situation where dual-purpose housing for various purposes is scattered in such suburban residential areas is also a living for the surrounding area. I thought it was an element that enriched the house. The architecture has become an icon as a store, and the white volume of the simple gabled roof has been used so that it can be casually blended into the area. The store part opens at a distance toward the corner of the street, and although it feels like it exists, it doesn’t make you feel the intrusive business spirit. However, it creates an atmosphere that makes me want to stop by next time.

In the residential area, not only the lives of people but also the lives of cats are important. Small gimmicks for cats and people to live together, such as a PVC tile floor designed for running around and claws, a stair railing with a fall-prevention net, and a windowsill that allows you to sit down and lookout.
