築18年のマンション住戸を改修した事例。日本の建築には昔から引戸が多く用いられてきた。日本の建築には縁側空間があり、日本人は雨戸や障子といった引戸を活用し、外部の自然や人との繋がり方を調節しながら暮らしてきた。このように周辺環境との繋がり方を調節する装置を、集合住宅の住戸内で活用することはできないだろうか？
寝室と廊下を壁ではなく10枚の連続引戸で仕切った。引戸は、外の音が聞こえるように少しだけ開けたり、視界を遮るため少しだけ閉めたりと、周辺環境とさまざまな繋がり方をつくることができる。こちらとあちらの距離感を調節し、繋がり方の調整弁の役割を果たす。連続引戸を開けておけば、朝、寝室の窓からの自然光が廊下側まで優しく照らし、閉鎖的になりがちな住戸内廊下に光と開放感を与える。子供部屋は小さい子供が将来自室をもてるように4枚の引戸で仕切ることができ、廊下側の棚は引戸を開ければ廊下からも使うことができる。部屋と廊下の境界は曖昧になっている。リビングの一角のワークスペースはガラス引戸で仕切った。家族の様子を見守りながら仕事でき、引戸の開閉で家族との繋がり方を調節することができる。
近年日本では、働くオフィス、寛ぐ家と明確な機能分離がなされていたが、新型コロナの影響により在宅ワークが急速に普及した。働く人は家の中で仕事をする場所が必要になり、学生もオンライン授業を受ける必要が生じた。しかしながら住宅のスペースは限られ、子供がいれば様子を見守る環境も必要になる。そういった状況でも、引戸の家では引戸の開閉具合や扉の仕様を工夫することで、限られた空間でも広い部屋に集まったり、個室に閉じこもったりと、そこで過ごす人同士がさまざまな距離の取り方を選択することができる。このように、人との繋がり方に選択の幅があることが、家で寛ぎ仕事もする、これからの住まいの1つのあり方ではないだろうか。（鈴木将記）
Dwelling unit renovation that creates a new way of connecting with sliding doors
This is a project to renovate a dwelling unit in an 18-year-old apartment. Sliding doors have long been used in Japanese architecture. Japanese architecture has veranda spaces, and Japanese people have lived by using sliding doors such as shutters and Shoji screens to control the way they connect with nature and people. Isn’t it possible to utilize the device even in an apartment unit?
We set the ten continuous sliding doors instead of a wall, allowing you to control the connection between this side and the other side. If you open them, the light from the bedroom gently illuminates the corridor in the morning. The children’s bedroom can be separated by four sliding doors, and the shelves in the room can be used from the corridor by opening the sliding doors. A workspace partitioned by glass sliding doors was set up in the living as they can control how to connect with the family.
In recent years, in Japan, there has been a clear separation of functions from working in offices and relaxing at homes. Meanwhile, the new coronavirus struck the world changed our lifestyle. At-home work has rapidly become widespread, with meetings centered online. However, housing space is limited, and if you have small children, you need an environment to watch over. Even under such circumstances, by opening and closing the sliding doors and devising the specifications of the doors, people who spend time there can take various distances even in a limited space, such as gathering in a large room or confining themselves in a private room. We believe that giving flexibility to the way of connecting is one of the ways of living in the future, where you can work in addition to relaxing at home. (Masaki Suzuki)
