敷地は六甲山南麓台地に位置し、地域内には山手幹線・阪急神戸線・JR東海道本線が横切っており、町の北部には山手中学校や宗円寺、南部には三条八幡神社があり、閑静な住宅地でありながらも、交通の便がよく、歴史的な背景も存在する地である。
当該計画地は、西側は急勾配な道路に面し、そのほかの周囲は隣地住宅に囲まれている。しかし、傾斜地であることから計画地は周囲よりも約4メートル地盤が高く、東面の眺望は開けており、大阪・神戸を見渡せる素晴らしい景色が広がる。そのような環境を最大限活かすよう、大開口が可能な鉄骨造で計画は進んだ。
建物は23.2×6.6×4.7メートルのシンプルな白い箱とし、それを8本の丸柱で地面から持ち上げた。建物を浮遊させることで、隣地から解放された見晴らしを獲得し、かつプライバシーの確保にも貢献している。
1階はピロティの浮遊感を損なわないよう、ガラス張りの玄関と収納のみとした。周囲にめぐらせた水盤と植栽はクライアントが収集されている美術品がつながり、開放的なギャラリー空間として訪れる人を楽しませてくれる。2階の各室は眺望が広がる東面のみ大きなガラス建具とし、それ以外の面は極力閉じることで、開放的かつプライベートな住空間を実現させている。ただ和室だけは落ち着いた陰影のある場にしたいということから、最低限の開口に抑え、LDKなどとはメリハリをつけている。
外装材は鉄骨造のもつ柔軟性や下地ALCのことを考慮し、弾性性能に優れた素材を選定している。内装材は東側に広がる眺望の移ろいを存分に楽しむよう、タイルやEP塗装などグレーを基調とした色合いでシンプルにまとめあげている。（大江一夫）
A house with a view by floating the entire building on a slope
The site is located on a plateau at the southern foot of Mt. Rokko. It is crossed by the Yamate-kansen, Hankyu Kobe Line, and JR Tokaido Main Line, with Yamate Junior High School and Soenji Temple in the northern part of the town, and Sanjo Hachiman Shrine in the southern part.
The site faces a steeply sloping road on the west side and is surrounded by neighboring houses. However, because of the slope, the ground level of the site is about 4m higher than the surrounding area, and the view to the east is open, offering a wonderful view of Osaka and Kobe. To make the most of this environment, the plan ・was developed using a steel structure that allows for large openings.
The building is a simple white box measuring 23.2m x 6.6m x 4.7m, raised from the ground by eight round columns. Floating the construction provides a view free from the neighboring land and contributes to securing privacy.
To not spoil the pilotis’ floating feeling, the first floor has only a glass-walled entrance and storage space. The rooms on the second floor have large glass fittings only on the east side, where the view can be enjoyed, and the other sides are closed as much as possible to create an open and private living space. The only room on the second floor is a Japanese-style room. However, the Japanese-style room is the superior room kept to a minimum opening to create a calm and shaded space separated from the LDK and other rooms.
For the exterior materials, materials with excellent elasticity were selected to consider the flexibility of the steel structure and the ALC substrate. For the interior materials, tiles and emulsion paint were used in a simple gray color scheme to fully enjoy the changing view to the east. (Kazuo Oe)
