計画地は、今まで一度も建築行為のなされることがなかった区画。そこは鬱蒼とした樹木に覆われた傾斜地であった。何度か敷地を訪れるうちに1本のヒメシャラの大樹が、なかでも特別な存在感をもっていることに気付き、伐採せずに共存する方法を模索し始めた。
地区協定で決められている壁面後退などから逆算すると、その樹木は建築可能エリアの中央付近に位置していた。そのため、樹木に対して少し遠慮しながら、建築で取り囲むようにプランニングを進めていった。
1本の樹木を中心点として求心的に考えているが、ここではあえて角度を揃えてシンメトリカルにしようとはしていない。基本的に1人もしくは2人、と少人数で滞在されることが多いということも設計条件の1つであったため、角度を連続的に操作することによって、それぞれの場に居心地がよいと感じられるスケール感を与えていくことができた。必要な詳細平面寸法については、各エリアのアクティビティが微細なスケール調整を誘発したといえる。
岬の突端のような段差のこの傾斜地に、建築をどのように載せるのかということは構造上の懸案事項であった。ここでは、基礎が深く大きくなりすぎないために、平面の3分の1ほどをオーバーハングさせることで接地面積を減らしている。基本構成としては、基礎から2階の床までをRCとして、その上に木造架構を載せている。図書スペースとしての使用を主眼に構想された上階では、先に説明した平面形を引き継ぎながら、三角形構面の頂点をパラメトリックに操作することで、屋根形状を連続的に変化させている。中央近くがピークとなっており、絞り込んだ両端部分は、中2階や吹き抜けを介して1階の領域と連続的に繋がっていく。それは全体を「1つの屋根」として自律的に感じさせる効果をもたらしている。（廣部剛司）
A mixed-structure villa that is flexibly operated around indigenous trees
The project site is a plot of land that has never been used for construction before. The site was a slope covered with dense trees. As I visited the area several times, I noticed that a large Hime Shara tree had a special presence among the trees. I began to search for a way to coexist with it without cutting it down.
The tree was located near the center of the buildable area, according to the wall setbacks required by the district agreement. For this reason, I proceeded with the planning so that the architecture would surround the tree with a little restraint.
One of the design conditions was that people often stay in small groups, one or two people. One of the design conditions was that most of the visitors would be one or two people, so by continuously manipulating the angles, I was able to give each place a sense of scale that would make them feel comfortable. As for the necessary detailed plan dimensions, it can be said that the activities in each area triggered fine-scale adjustments.
The structural concern was putting the architecture on the slope with steps like the tip of such a cape. To prevent the foundation from becoming too deep and large, overhanging about a third of the plan reduced the ground surface area. The basic structure is RC from the foundation to the second floor, and a wooden structure is placed on top of it. On the upper floor, which was conceived mainly for use as a library space, the roof shape is continuously changed by parametrically manipulating the vertices of the triangular structure while retaining the floor plan described above. The peak is near the center, and the narrowed ends are continuously connected to the first-floor area through the mezzanine and the vault. This has the effect of making the entire building feel autonomous as “one roof.” (Takeshi Hirobe)
