(English below)

Showroom where movable rack and stock also function as a display

We designed a showroom for an apparel brand, MOONRAKERS, located in Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo. We started with the requirement to have many products, including stock such as size and color variations specific to the showroom, which is different from the usual apparel stores that are divided by product display and stock.

To secure many products, the flagpole site was divided into left and right halves, with half of the space used for movable racks and stock and the other half used for product display and traffic flow. By using the movable racks as stock, it is possible to secure a large number of products. Furthermore, by pulling out the racks, it is possible to check the size and color variations of the products, thus realizing the necessary functions required for storage and a showroom.
When the showroom is closed, the movable racks can be pulled out so that the racks themselves can serve as window displays for the store. At the same time, to embody the brand concept of “Technology & Craftmanship,” even in an empty state, we combined materials with different textures and backgrounds, such as ready-made steel racks and rattan, gutter covers, and brass, plaster, and inorganic lighting. Thus, it is not a mere contrast but a harmonious combination that brings new uses, discoveries, and realizations.

I believe that essential technology and craftsmanship means discovering, creating, and challenging new values by reviewing and combining the past. So I wanted to create a space where people could experience and receive such a way of thinking and understanding things. (Kiyoshi Miyagawa)
