〈melt〉は、信貴山の麓に位置する住宅地に建つ住宅の計画である。間口5.6m・奥行き23.7mと細長い敷地であった。
クライアントは30代のご夫婦と子供1人で、 緑を身近に感じる住まいを希望された。
「緑を身近に感じる住まい」とは、どこからでも緑を眺めることができる住まいではなく、外部空間を住み手が積極的に利用する住まいではないか。例えば、木の下でお昼寝をしてみたり、葉っぱを触ってみたり、新しく仲間となる木や花を植えたりなど、緑と一緒に風や匂いを直で感じる時間を過ごせることが、「緑と身近な住まい」といえるのではないかと考えた。
そこで、庭を中心としたゾーニングとしつつ、庭を内部空間としても利用する計画とした。南北に建物を配置することで生まれる2つの隙間空間に、雨をしのぐ屋根設け、外部の風や熱や音などを調整するために大きな開口部を設けた。
この空間はドライガーデンとして、住み手のライフスタイルの変化や日々の時間帯による用途の変化、アウトドアイベントの利用、天候の変化など、変化する住まいを受容できる空間となった。
また、ドライガーデンに設けたハイサイドライトにより生まれるドラフト効果による通風を確保しつつ、細長い敷地でありながらも光と風に溢れる住まいとなった。
住まい方の変化が激しい現代の中、限られた敷地内で、ドライガーデンがさまざまな居場所として、住まい手の多彩な時間の過ごし方を許容し、1つひとつのシーンを濃密に、そして多様に紡いでいける空間となることを願っている。（斉藤智士）
A house with a dry garden to live with greenery
“melt” is for a house in a residential area located at the foot of Mt. The site is long and narrow, with a frontage of 5.6m and a depth of 23.7m.
The client, a couple in their thirties with one child, wanted a home where they could feel close to the greenery.
The client wanted a home where they could feel close to the greenery. “A home where you feel close to the greenery” does not mean a home where you can look at the greenery from anywhere, but a home where the residents actively use the external space. For example, we thought that a “home close to the greenery” could be a place where you can spend time directly feeling the breeze and smells of the greenery, such as taking a nap under a tree, touching the leaves, or planting new trees and flowers.
Therefore, while the zoning is centered on the garden, we also planned to use the garden as an interior space. In the two spaces created by the layout of the building to the north and south, we created roofs to keep out the rain and large openings to regulate the wind, heat, and sound from the outside.
As a dry garden, this space can accommodate the changing lifestyles of the residents, changes in use depending on the time of day, use for outdoor events, and changes in the weather.
In addition, the high sidelights in the dry garden create a draft effect that ensures ventilation, and despite the long, narrow site, the house is filled with light and wind.
In today’s rapidly changing living style, I hope that the dry garden will become a space that allows the residents to spend their time in various ways and weave each scene densely and diversely within the limited site. (Satoshi Saito)
