陽が当たらない与条件で、金太郎飴のような断面形状を考えてみる。
南側に中層の集合住宅が建つ、冬季の日当たりがほとんど期待できない敷地での計画。最初に現地を見た時には少し唖然としたが、このような敷地だからこそ成立するかたちがあると思い模索を始めた。
南側に建つ建物は東西に長く箱型であるため、今回の敷地に落とす影の位置は日中ほぼ変化せずある意味安定している。そこで、冬至の日照を中心にどのような形状にしたら明るく過ごすことができるかを検討した。
通常の考え方で南側に庭を配置して北に家を配置すると、常に影となる集合住宅の北面を眺めながら、直射光も2階部分にしか射し込まない住宅が出来上がることが分かり、一度は検討を終了した。オーソドックスな案からスタートして基本配置を試行錯誤しながら、最終的に建物を南側に配置し、庭を北側に抱きかかえるかたちにたどり着いた。
このかたちに至ったのは、屋根の高さは年中通して日照が期待できたこと、北側に庭を配置して壁を設置することで壁面が日射を受け、家の中から明るい面を眺められることなどが主な理由である。加えて、2階の床をルーバー材（スノコ状）にすることで、天窓の明かりを1階まで届けることができる仕組みや、段階的に天井高を変化させて風が自然と流れる断面形状を検討しながら、詳細を掘り下げていった。
この家は南北方向の基本断面形状が東端から西端までまったく同じという、自身初の試みを行っている。いわゆる金太郎飴のようなかたちで構成されたプランである。家の中の最外周を1・2階ともに回遊できるので見通しもよく、結果的に光・風・空間がすべて抜けのよい稀有な構成となったと思う。
敷地の特性上、初期の施主からの要望の大半は、暗さと寒さの不安で占められていたが、完成した住宅に入居いただくと、明るさや温冷感でのワードがまったく登場せず、生活の一部として住宅が受け入れられていることに多少の達成感を感じることができた。
土地や周辺環境的には恵まれていると言いがたい環境の中、北と南が反転したような非一般解としての住宅プランが導かれたが、このかたちで存在していたかのような、少しだけゆっくり時間が流れる家となっていることを願っている。（長澤 徹）
A house with the same cross-sectional shape with a garden on the north side
I considered a cross-sectional shape like a Kintaro candy under the given conditions without sunlight.
This project was planned for a mid-rise residential complex on the south side, which is hardly expected to receive sunlight in winter. When I first saw the site, I was a little stunned, but I began to search for a form that would be possible only on such a site.
The building on the south side of the site is long and boxy from east to west, so the shadow cast on the site is almost unchanged during the day, and in a sense, stable. Therefore, we considered what shape would be best to make the site brighter and sunnier during the winter solstice.
If the garden were placed on the south side and the house on the north side, we would end up with a house that would always look at the north side of the housing complex, which would be in shadow, and direct light would only shine on the second floor. Starting with an orthodox plan, we went through a trial-and-error process to find the basic layout and finally arrived at a form in which the building is placed on the south side, and the garden is held on the north side.
The roof was designed to provide year-round sunshine, and the wall on the north side of the house was designed to catch the sun’s rays so that the house could be viewed from inside. In addition, the second floor is louvered so that the light from the skylight can reach the first floor, and the ceiling height can be varied in stages to allow the wind to flow naturally.
This house is the first of its kind in which the basic cross-sectional shape in the north-south direction is the same from the east end to the west end. The plan is structured like a so-called Kintaro candy. As the outermost part of the house can be traversed on both the first and second floors, the outlook is good, and the result is a rare composition that allows light, wind, and space to flow through.
Due to the site’s characteristics, the initial clients were occupied with anxiety about darkness and cold. However, once they moved into the completed house, there was no mention of concerns about brightness or warmth, and we felt a sense of accomplishment that the house had been accepted as a part of their daily lives.
In an environment that may not be so blessed in terms of land and surrounding environment, the house plan was a non-general solution, as if the north and south were reversed. However, once the house is finished, it seems as if it had always existed in this form, and I hope it will become a house where time flows a little more slowly. (Toru Nagasawa)
