福岡県那珂川市は、山陽新幹線の回送線を旅客線化したJR博多南線で博多駅から8分の博多南駅があり、利便性のよいことから近年人口が増加している。2017年には人口5万人を超え、2018年10月には市制施行で那珂川町から那珂川市となったばかりである。
本計画は2018年に供用開始をした県内最大の五ケ山ダム湖周辺の整備事業の一環として、福岡県那珂川市が2016年9月に観光振興を図ることを目的として公募した観光拠点施設プロポーザルにおいて選定されたプロジェクトである。
ショップ・カフェの入る本計画以外にも、近郊に新たにキャンプサイトも整備され、福岡都市圏から1時間圏内の新たなアウトドア拠点として今後多くの人々の来訪が期待される。
脊振山系の山並みやスケールの大きなダムの景観と調和するデザインとなるよう、敷地形状をオフセットしたようなボリュームの建築とし、高さ102mの巨大なダムの堤体と呼応するような曲面平面のおおらかな造形としている。
ダム湖への眺望を間近に感じられる天然木デッキのルーフテラスを設け、人々が休憩することのできるベンチのような緩やかな大階段・スロープにより駐車場からルーフテラスへスムーズに繋がる、ランドスケープと建築が連続した一体感のある風景を創出した。
ルーフテラスの駐車場側には那珂川産材ヒノキを水蒸気式高温熱処理した天然木のルーバーを設け、五ケ山エリアの新しいシンボルとなるような山並みに呼応したルーバー形状とした。
構造は両サイドの大階段と厨房コアを鉄筋コンクリート造とし、それ以外を鉄骨造の柱・梁とした橋のような土木的建築である。厨房コアは背後にあるダム湖畔以外の人工物（既存施設）をなるべく遮るように配することで、風景をフレーミングするような内部空間を創出した。
全体的にダムという土木的な大きなスケールに調和するように、繊細すぎないおおらかで粗い解像度のディテールによるランドフォームアーキテクチャーを目指した。（平瀬有人＋平瀬祐子）
A facility with a civil engineering scale and resolution that harmonizes with the dam landscape
The population of Nakagawa City in Fukuoka Prefecture has been increasing in recent years due to the convenience of Hakata Minami Station, which is 8 minutes away from Hakata Station on the JR Hakata Minami Line, which was converted from the Sanyo Shinkansen line into a passenger line; the population exceeded 50,000 in 2017, and the city just became Nakagawa City from Nakagawa Town in October 2018.
This project was selected by the city of Nakagawa in Fukuoka Prefecture in September 2016 as part of the project to develop the area around the Gokayama Dam, the largest dam in the prefecture, which was opened for use in 2018, through a public proposal for a tourism base facility to promote tourism.
In addition to the planned stores and cafes, a new camping site will be built in the suburbs, which is expected to attract many visitors as a new outdoor base within an hour from the Fukuoka metropolitan area.
In order to harmonize the design with the mountainous landscape of the Sefuri Mountains and the large scale of the dam, the volume of the building is designed to offset the shape of the site, and the curved planes of the building are generously shaped to correspond with the 102m high embankment of the huge dam.
A natural wood-decked roof terrace is provided for a close view of the dam lake, and a large, gentle staircase and slope like a bench for people to take a rest leads smoothly from the parking lot to the roof terrace, creating a landscape with a sense of unity where the landscape and architecture are continuous.
We installed natural wood louvers made of Japanese cypress produced in Nakagawa on the parking lot side of the roof terrace. The shape of the louvers responded to the mountain view that would become a new symbol of the Gokayama area.
The structure is a civil engineering architecture like a bridge, with the main staircase and kitchen core on both sides made of reinforced concrete, and the rest of the building made of steel columns and beams. The kitchen core is placed in such a way as to block out as many man-made structures (existing facilities) as possible, except for the dam lakeside behind it, creating an interior space that frames the landscape.
The overall aim was to create a landform architecture with large, coarse resolution details that are not too delicate to harmonize with the large civil engineering scale of the dam. (Yujin Hirase + Yuko Hirase)
