古民家を改修しアンビバレントな関係を保つ設計事務所兼住居

公園と畑に挟まれた築45年の平屋の古民家を事務所兼住居にリノベーションした。

「公園と畑」「事務所と住居」「既存部と改修部」といった対要素をできるだけ等価に扱い、「生活という物語の舞台」としての住居を設計することを意識した。

シーンの連続により物語性を構築していくこと、それはシークエンスという概念とは少し異なる。建築が主役ではなく、あくまで生活が主役の物語をつくるために、空間を背景化していく方法である。

すべての要素を消すのではなく、強い要素に対しては強い要素を、弱い要素には弱い要素をノイズキャンセラーのように逆位相の波長を重ね、それぞれの要素が少しずつ微弱な繋がりをもって散在しているアンビバレントな状態を目指した。

南側の明るい公園側を住居スペース、北側の静かな畑側を事務所スペースとし、２つのスペースの対比的な関係を崩すために住居と事務所を貫通する大きなテーブルを配置した。
公園と畑に挟まれた環境に身を置く心地良さを増幅させる装置として「公園側の住居」と「畑側の事務所」の境界面に同じ素材・同じ形状のテーブルを挿入することで、風景の繋がりを発生させている。

現存する空き家の多くはアノニマスな建物であるが、それを活用し、新たに手を加える際、既存空間がもつ要素や形式や積み重ねられてきた時間を尊重し、新しさのエッジが際立たちすぎないように、ある種の謙虚さをもつように心掛けたいと思っている。（川口裕人）

Renovation of an old house to create an ambivalent relationship between office and residence

A 45-year-old one-story house between a park and a field was renovated into an office and residence.

We were conscious of designing the residence as a “stage for a story of life” by treating the opposing elements of “park and field,” “office and residence,” and “existing part and renovated part” as equivalently as possible.

The construction of a narrative through a series of scenes is slightly different from the concept of a sequence. It is a method of backgrounding the space in order to create a story in which architecture does not play the leading role but rather life itself.

Rather than erasing all the elements, I layered wavelengths in opposite phases, like noise cancellers, with strong elements for strong elements and weak elements for weak elements, aiming for an ambivalent state in which each element is scattered with a slight and weak connection.

The bright park side to the south is used as the residential space, and the quiet field side to the north is the office space. To break the contrasting relationship between the two spaces, a large table is placed between the residence and the office.
The table, which is made of the same material and has the same shape, was inserted at the boundary between the residence on the park side and the office on the field side as a device to amplify the comfort of being in the environment between the park and the field, thereby creating a connection in the landscape.

Many of the existing vacant houses are anonymous buildings. Still, in utilizing them and adding new touches, we respect the elements and formality of the existing space and the time that has been accumulated.
