アートと階段が出迎えるスキップフロアの家

界隈は商業地区のはずれのお寺の点在する地域。大通りから少し入った建てこんだ住宅街で、落ち着いた雰囲気だった。
前面道路は5.3m、南側接道。敷地は間口4.9m、奥行10.5mで北側にコブ付きの南北に長い形状。この間口にめいっぱい建物を広げるとして、建物は2.5間（4.5m）の幅がとれる計算になる。この敷地の場合、東西隣地側はほぼ余地はないが前面道路側に加え、裏手の北側にも余地・抜けがあった。2階の床を割り、南北の床レベルをずらすことで、明るい2階の光を1階まで届けるようにした。

スキップフロアにすることで、廊下と階段を兼ねることができ、動線に使う面積が少なくて済む。階段の吹抜けを通して建物全体をほぼワンルームにし、個室は必要な時に区切るよう建具をつけた。階段は蹴込みのない形状とし、階段の吹抜けを通して下階から風がぬけていく。
現代美術に携わるご夫妻のため、大きな本棚と美術作品を飾る巨大な壁（東外壁面）を用意し、途切れさせず見せることで床面積の小さな空間をダイナミックに見せるよう試みた。敷地唯一の目線の抜けになる北空を動線の先に見えるよう配置することで、都会で最も手軽に感じられる自然である空を取り入れる仕掛けとしている。

道路沿いの2階テラスは広めにとり、植物を育て、太陽を感じる場所とした。そのぶん居間は狭くなるが、窓を全開放するとテラスと一体となり、床が広がる。テラスの腰壁は数少ない窓の1つである南窓が閉鎖的にならないよう低めに設定しているが、道行く人からの宅内への目線を遮る役割を果たしている。半階上がった1階北側の部屋は明るくなり、床下に収納庫ができた。（烏野良子）

Art and a staircase welcome us to this skip-floor house

The neighborhood is dotted with temples on the outskirts of a commercial district. It is a residential area located a short distance from the main street and has a calm atmosphere.
The front road is 5.3m and is tangent to the south. The site has a frontage of 4.9m and a depth of 10.5m. It is long from north to south with a hump on the north side. If the building were to be expanded to the full extent of this frontage, the width of the building would be 4.5m. In the case of this site, there is almost no room on the adjacent east-west side, but there is room on the front roadside and the north side of the back of the building. By splitting the second floor and shifting the floor level from north to south, light from the bright second floor was allowed to reach the first floor.

By creating a skip floor, the hallway and staircase could be combined, reducing the area used for flow lines. Through the stairwell, the entire building is almost a single room, and private rooms are separated by fittings when necessary. The staircase is shaped without a kick-in, allowing the wind to blow through the stairwell from the lower floor.
The couple is involved in contemporary art, so a large bookshelf and a huge wall (on the east exterior wall) were prepared to display their works of art and to make the small floor space look dynamic by showing them without interruption. The northern sky, which is the only place on the site where the eye can escape, is placed so that it can be seen beyond the line of flow, a device that brings in the sky, which is the most easily accessible nature in the city.

The second-floor terrace along the street is spacious enough to grow plants and feel the sun. The living room is smaller, but when the windows are fully opened, it becomes one with the terrace, and the floor expands. The terrace’s spandrel wall is lowered to prevent the south window, one of the few windows in the house, from closing in, but it also blocks the view of passersby into the house. The room on the north side of the first floor, half a floor up, has been brightened, and a storage room has been created under the floor.
