ハワイ発祥のスキンケアブランド「ua body」の日本初出店における店舗デザイン。
uaとは雨の意味であり、大地に雨が降り注ぎ、その恩恵を授かるかたちで、今も手仕事で商品が開発されている。このストーリーそのもの、さらにはハワイ特有の気候であるよい意味での緩やかさやアロハの精神を表現したいと考えた。
ハワイ島の大地の特徴である溶岩を実現させるために溶岩石を混ぜ込んだ左官材を開発し、現場ではその左官材を塗り込みながら削り、研磨するという工程数が多くかかるが荒々しくも繊細な素材をつくり上げた。
さらに溶岩が流れることでできた不定形の地形を表現するために、同心円状ではなくあえて中心性をもたせない形状の雛壇のディスプレイ棚とすることで、不定形でありながら自由な緩やかさをもつハワイ島の大地の自然の豊かさを表現している。
また、壁面や天井には肌に近い特殊な色を採用し、床材にも天然素材でできた特殊なリノリウム、家具にはモンキーポッド（雨降りの木）などを採用することで、店舗空間全体で自然素材由来のハワイ発祥のスキンケアブランドであるua bodyのブランドコンセプトを表現している。
火山が生まれ、溶岩が流れ、雨が降ることでつくられてきたハワイ島の自然の豊かさ、ハワイ島が出来上がる過程、歴史そのものをスキンケアブランドとしてショップ空間で実現させている。（宮川清志）
A store specializing in skin care products that expresses the blessings of lava and rain using natural materials
Store design for the first Japan store of ua body, a skincare brand originating from Hawaii.
Ua means rain, and products are still being developed by hand in the form of rain falling on the earth and bestowing its benefits. We wanted to express this story itself, and furthermore, the spirit of aloha and the good sense of gradualness that is the unique climate of Hawaii.
In order to realize the lava rock characteristic of the Hawaiian Islands, we developed a plastering material mixed with lava rock, which was then applied, scraped, and polished on site, creating a rough yet delicate material.
Furthermore, in order to express the irregular topography created by the flowing lava, the display shelves are not concentric in shape but instead are shaped like a platform with no centrality, expressing the natural richness of the Hawaiian island land, which is irregular in shape, but has a free and loose feeling.
The walls and ceiling are covered with a special color similar to skin, the flooring is made of a special linoleum made of natural materials, and the furniture is made of monkey pods (trees that have fallen in the rain), etc. The entire store space expresses the brand concept of ua body, a skincare brand originating from Hawaii using natural materials.
The richness of nature on the Big Island of Hawaii, created by the birth of volcanoes, the flow of lava and rainfall, and the process and history of the creation of the Big Island of Hawaii are all expressed in the store space as a skincare brand. (Kiyoshi Miyagawa)
