埼玉県加須市にある1868年創業の新井理容店5代目店主の要望を受けて、親子3世代で営む理容室兼美容室の改築工事を行った。新井理容店は周辺住民の集いの場として、人と人を繋ぎ地域になくてはならい場所として永く愛されてきた。
本計画は、150年を超える歴史の継承を目指し、敷地西側の既存住宅母屋のボリュームと5寸勾配屋根を踏襲している。田園風景に溶け込むとんがり屋根の連なりは、多世代のお客様を迎え入れる開放的な空間となっている。
木構造の力強さや立体感が認識されるように、転がした水平梁の上に連続的に小さな光源を配している。夕暮れになるにつれて周囲に温かな灯りが漏れ出し、人の営みや気配が水田に映り込む風景を創出している。
計画地周辺には渡良瀬遊水地をはじめとする豊かな生態系が残るため、庭には日本固有の在来種を多く採用している。また、旧店舗の庭先にあった溶岩石を移設し、歴史を感じられる庭としている。（幕田早紀）
A hair salon and barber with a sloping roof that carries on the history
At the request of the fifth-generation owner of arai, established in 1868 in Kazo City, Saitama Prefecture, we reconstructed a hair salon and baber run by three generations of parents and children. This shop has long been loved as a gathering place for residents and an indispensable place connecting people.
This project aims to carry on more than 150 years of history and follows the volume of the existing main house on the west side of the site and its 5 sun-pitched roofs. The series of pointy roofs blending into the rural landscape creates an open space that welcomes multi-generational guests.
To realize an open space, ceiling lights are placed above the rolled horizontal beams, creating a composition in which the woody space emerges three-dimensionally with depth. As dusk falls, warm lights leak out into the surroundings, creating a lively atmosphere in the community.
The area surrounding the project site is rich in ecosystems, such as the Watarase-yusuichi, and many native Japanese species have been used in the garden. In addition, lava rocks from the garden of a former store have been relocated to create a garden that evokes a sense of history. (Saki Makuta)
