静岡県浜松市に位置する、山の中腹にあるミカン畑の中に建つ自邸。
自身が東京と浜松（都市と地方）を行き来する2拠点生活を送るなか、改めて自然の魅力や価値を感じたことで、「建築と自然の距離感」を考え直した計画である。
この住宅には2つの距離感が同居する。
パーゴラ空間は周辺環境へ拡がる「開放性」を与え、室内空間は山を背にし、斜面に身を委ねるように「安心感」を与える。
建物はミニマムな長方形ボリュームに抑え、傾斜地を利用し斜面に寄り添うように腰を据えた一方、パーゴラ空間を最大化し、建物を軽やかに包み込み、建築と自然をゆるやかに繋げた。そしてこれらの面積比率は1：1となった。
この緩衝領域のアンバランスさと、それぞれの自然との距離感を自由に行き来する暮らし方が、この土地ならではの快適性と住宅としてのリアリティを生んでいる。
パーゴラ空間は、生活空間が外部空間へと拡張していく身体感覚を担う場所として存在している。同時に、リビングの延長であり、玄関土間の延長でもある。パーゴラ空間によって周辺の豊かな自然をより享受することが可能になり、さまざまな暮らしのシーンが溢れ出て、暮らしと自然の距離が近くなる。また、パーゴラによって生まれる美しい影が建物にさまざまな表情を与え、季節や時間の移ろいを感じさせる。
デザインの段階においては、日射遮蔽、日射取得のシミュレーションをしつつ、周辺環境への開放性とのバランスを考慮し、向きやピッチ、断面寸法などを決定した。斜めに設けられたパーゴラ材は水平ブレースの役割を担うため、構造的な補強としても寄与している。
外壁は、白岩という地名の通り、白い岩でできた石垣が多くある地域の景観に配慮し、地元の砂利などを使用した天然素材の白モルタル掻き落としとした。外壁と同じ素材を室内の壁へ連続して仕上げることで、外と内の繋がりを生んでいる。また、外壁と室内側では掻き落とし方を変えて、凹凸感に変化を加えている。
トイレには、ミカンのオレンジ・自然の緑・白岩の白など、周辺環境の色を集めてオリジナルのテラゾータイルを製作し、床材として使用した。（岡田 宰）
A house surrounded by tangerine orchards where the shadow of a pergola brings expression to the white mortar walls
This house is located in Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in a tangerine field on a mountainside.
While I go to Tokyo and Hamamatsu (urban and rural), I felt the appeal and value of nature again, so I reconsidered the “sense of distance” between architecture and nature.
In this project, two senses of distance coexist.
The pergola space gives an “openness” that extends to the surrounding environment. In contrast, with the mountain in the background, the interior space provides a “sense of security” as if we were surrendering to the slope.
The building is kept in a minimalist rectangular volume. It sits close to the slope, while the pergola space is maximized to wrap the building lightly and gently connect the architecture and nature. The ratio of these areas is now 1:1.
The imbalance of this buffer zone and the way of living that allows the residents to freely move back and forth between the two areas and their sense of distance from nature give rise to the site’s comfort and reality as a residence.
The pergola space exists as a place that bears the physical sensation of expanding the living space into external space. Simultaneously, the pergola space is an extension of the living room and the earthen floor of the entrance hall. The pergola space enables the residents to enjoy nature’s richness and enjoy various scenes of life, which brings nature closer to them. The beautiful shadows created by the pergola also give the building different expressions and a sense of changing the seasons and time.
During the design phase, we simulated the sun-shielding and solar radiation acquisition. We determined the direction, pitch, and cross-sectional dimensions of the pergola, taking into account the balance between the pergola’s openness and the openness to the surrounding environment. The diagonal pergola, which acts as a horizontal brace, contributes to the building’s structural reinforcement.
The exterior walls are made of white mortar scraped off with local gravel and other natural materials, considering the landscape of the area where the stone walls are made of white rocks, as the name of the place suggests. Using the same material as the outer wall, the same material is used for the interior walls, creating a connection between the exterior and interior. Also, the scraping method is different between the exterior and interior walls to give a different feel to the unevenness.
For the restroom, original terrazzo tiles were produced by collecting the surrounding environment’s colors, such as orange of oranges, green of nature, and white of white rock, and used as a flooring material. (Tsukasa Okada)
