〈Kids Land みやびの〉は、医療法人が運営する企業主導型の保育園である。健康、感性、生きる力、思いやりを保育目標とし、法人の運営する近隣クリニックと連携した病児保育や、外国人保育士を複数名起用しての日常的な英語教育などに力を入れている。子供たちは遊びを通して身体を動かし、子供同士で関わり合いをもつことで心身を成長させる。
長時間過ごす保育園での生活は、子供たちの成長に直結するため、遊びを喚起する要素を空間に盛り込むことで、遊びが単純化している子供たちに自発的な遊びを誘発し、生活する中で多様な関係性を築けるような建築をつくりたいと考えた。
敷地は愛知県東海市の住宅地の一画である。1階には日常的に登園する0-5才児の保育室や関連諸室、地域交流スペースを設け、外部アプローチから直接アクセスできる2階には、一時的な預け先としての利用が可能な病児・病後児保育室を設けた。子供が元気に育つ環境がまちづくりの中心的な課題である一方で、近年、子供たちの遊ぶ環境は扱いが非常にデリケートになっている。子供たちが遊びを通して刺激を誘発するような場をつくりつつ、地域住民からも愛される施設とすることが重要だと考えた。
緩やかな曲面と三角屋根が特徴的な外観は、住宅地の屋根に馴染ませながら、園全体が大らかな居場所となることを目指した。外壁がつくり出す外アールは、隣接する住宅との関係性がダイレクトになりすぎないように子供たちを包み込み、縁側テラスがつくり出す内アールは各保育室と園庭を繋ぐ。園庭を囲む縁側テラスや屋外デッキ、吹き抜けといった建築的に空間を豊かにする要素に対して、子供たちは立体的に走り回る面白さを見つけ出し、空間を「遊び倒す」。2階から園庭に続く屋外階段や滑り台は避難用の動線だけではなく、屋外デッキを含む立体的なかけっこのコースとなり、エントランスのネット張りの吹き抜けは刺激的な遊び場となる。保育室の中心には地域交流スペースという数段床の下がったオープンスペースを設け、異なる年齢の子供たちの交流する機会を増やし、お遊戯会や育児相談会など地域に開かれたイベントの会場としても利用できるようにした。
この園ですくすく育った子供たちの記憶に、空間体験が遊びの思い出と共に残り続け、後に子供たちが逞しく地域を支える存在となってくれることを願う。（田中義彰）
A childcare facility whose arch shape induces spontaneous play
“Kids Land Miyabino” is a corporate-led daycare center operated by a medical corporation. With health, sensitivity, zest for life, and compassion as its goals, the company focuses on providing care for sick children in cooperation with a nearby clinic operated by the medical corporation and daily English education with several foreign nursery staff members. Children develop their bodies and minds through physical exercise and interaction with other children through play.
Since life in a daycare center, where children spend long hours, is directly related to their growth, we wanted to create an architecture that would induce spontaneous play among children, whose play has become simplistic, and build diverse relationships in their daily lives by incorporating elements that evoke play in the space.
The site is located in a residential area in Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture, and is comprised of a nursery for children aged 0-5 who attend school daily, various related rooms, a space for community interaction on the first floor, and a nursery for sick children and children after illness on the second floor, which is directly accessible from the exterior approach and can be used as a temporary place for childcare. While an environment where children can grow up healthy is a central issue in urban development, the environment in which children play has become challenging to handle in recent years. It was important to create a place where children can induce stimulation through play, while at the same time making the facility beloved by local residents.
The exterior, with its gently curved surfaces and triangular roof, was designed to blend in with the residential roofs while making the entire preschool a place of large-heartedness. The outer wall creates an outer curve that envelops the children so that their relationship with the adjacent houses does not become too direct, and the inner curve created by the edge terrace connects each nursery room with the schoolyard. The outdoor stairs and slide leading to the garden from the second floor are not only an evacuation route, but also provide a three-dimensional course for children to run and play, including the outdoor deck, and the netting at the entrance connects the garden to each room. The netted stairwell at the entrance provides a stimulating playground. In the center of the nursery is an open space with several lowered floors called the Community Exchange Space, which offers more opportunities for children of different ages to interact with each other and can also be used as a venue for events open to the community, such as playdates and childcare consultations.
We hope that the children who grow up in this preschool will keep the experience of the space in their memories, along with the memories of their play, and that they will later become strong community supporters. (Yoshiaki Tanaka)
