500年以上も歴史のある秋田県五城目町の朝市通り。そのすぐ脇の小路に建つ既存住宅を、2部屋だけの小さなアートホステルへの改修計画である。
この宿は、表と裏2つの道路に面した敷地に立ち、そのそれぞれの道と繋がった2つの玄関がある。アプローチを進み、”1つ目の玄関”から宿のラウンジへと入る。透け感のある壁で仕切られたラウンジは、アート作品が置かれ、訪れた旅人を柔らかく向かい入れつつ、日常からの切り替えと町に出る準備をするための場所となる。そして準備を整え町に出るとき、昔の面影を残したままの”2つ目の玄関”から小路を抜けて徐々に町へと繋がっていく。
旅人にとってこの宿が、町に溶け込んでいくためのトンネルのような機能を果たす、そんな中継地点や心の準備を整える場所になればと思う。（小倉 大、柳原まどか）
A accommodation facility with semi-transparent partitions that create a sense of depth in the space
The Asaichi-dori street in Goshogame Town, Akita Prefecture, has a history of over 500 years. This renovation project involves converting an existing residential house located on a small alleyway adjacent to the street into a small art hostel with only two rooms.
The property is situated on a lot facing two roads, one in front and one in back, each connected to the house via separate entrances. As you approach the property, you enter the hostel’s lounge through the “first entrance.” The lounge, separated by translucent walls, features artworks and serves as a place to gently welcome travelers while helping them transition from daily life and prepare to explore the town. When ready to venture out, guests exit through the “second entrance,” which retains its old-world charm, and gradually make their way through the alley toward the town.
We hope this inn functions as a tunnel-like gateway, serving as a transitional point and a place to prepare both physically and mentally for travelers to blend into the town. (Dai Ogura, Madoka Yanagiwara)
