川崎市宮前区にある花農家さんが、市バス停留所の目の前に花屋を出し、定期的に開催してきた「花の停留所」というイベントがある。自宅や庭を開放し、地域のお店や友人などが集まるこのイベントは、開催するごとにその強みを増してきた。この時限的なつながりを定着させ、新たな店舗を招き入れたプロジェクトが「街の停留所」である。
敷地は第二種低層住居専用地域を含む住宅地エリアにあり、計画できる規模や用途に制限があることから、要望されたプログラムを飲食店・店舗2棟に分配し、2つの「広場」を確保するかたちで配置した。道路側の菓子棟には焼き菓子屋とパン屋、コーヒースタンドを設け、道路から直接アクセスできるよう計画し、敷地奥の花棟には花屋を中心にレンタルキッチン、雑貨屋を配置。小さなお店が複合的に集まることで、訪れる人との接点を増やしている。2棟は対になるようなデザインとし、角の柱をなくし、全面建具を開放すると外と連続するような空間となっている。

A hub for food and daily life, where two open-concept buildings and a plaza draw people in
There is an event called “Flower Stop” organized by a flower farmer in Miyamae Ward, Kawasaki City, who has been setting up a flower shop right in front of a city bus stop and holding it regularly. This event, where local shops and friends gather in the farmer’s home and garden, has grown in popularity with each iteration. “Town Stop” is a project designed to solidify these temporary connections and invite new businesses to the area.
The site is located in a residential area that includes a Type 2 Low-Rise Residential Zone, where there are restrictions on the scale and permitted uses of buildings. Therefore, the requested programs were distributed across two buildings—one for restaurants and another for shops—and arranged to create two “plazas.” The “Confectionery Building” on the street side houses a bakery, a pastry shop, and a coffee stand, designed for direct access from the street. The “Flower Building” at the rear of the site features a florist as its centerpiece, along with a rental kitchen and a general goods store. By bringing together a diverse mix of small shops, the design increases the number of points of contact with visitors. The two buildings were designed to complement each other; by removing the corner columns and opening the full-height doors, the spaces create a sense of continuity with the outdoors.
