土、木は人類が誕生してから常に住まいと密接に関わってきた材料である。そして植物は自然界を代表するものの1つといっていい。それらをふんだんに使い、室内と室外の区別をなくした空間づくりをした。
滋賀県彦根市の最南端に位置するこの土地は、周りに豊かな自然が広がる。そこで、土でできたタイル、植物、無垢材でつくる家を提案した。通常これだけの素材を一度に使用すると空間がうるさくなりがちだが、色との相性を吟味することによりたくさんの素材を使用しているが落ち着きのある空間ができあがった。
また2階の高さをあえて低く抑えることにより、室内に置く植物たちの迫力を増すことができた。そして空間も大きくせず、狭くすることでまるでジャングルの中にいるかのような空間となり、クライアントが好きで集めていたヴィンテージ家具や照明とも溶け込む空間ができた。
近年、シンプルで明るい空間が一般的には求められるが、そこにとらわれず建築家がいろいろな可能性を提案していきたいと思う。（殿村明彦）
A house that uses a lot of soil, wood, and plants to eliminate the distinction between indoors and outdoors
Soil and wood are materials that have always been closely related to housing since the birth of humanity. And plants are one of the most representative things in the natural world. So I used them in abundance to create a space where there is no distinction between indoors and outdoors.
This site, located in the southernmost part of Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, is surrounded by rich nature. Therefore, I proposed a house made of earthen tiles, plants, and solid wood. Usually, using so many materials would make the space noisy, but by carefully selecting the right colors, we were able to create a calm space.
In addition, the height of the second floor was deliberately kept low to increase the power of the plants placed in the room. By making space narrower, space becomes like being in a jungle and blends in with the vintage furniture and lighting that the client likes to collect.
In recent years, there has been a general demand for simple and bright spaces. Still, I hope that architects will continue to propose various possibilities without being limited by them. (Akihiko Tonomura)
