幼稚園は子供たちが初めて社会と接点を持つ場である。集団生活の中で、まねる、学ぶ、思いやる気持ちが生まれるとともに、個々の創造力・思考力の土台を築いていく。
しかし現状は、クラスの友達や担任の先生内でコミュニケーションが完結してしまっている。同じ建物内で過ごす子供たちが、それぞれの個の領域を広げることで、本来の「集まって過ごすこと」の価値が生まれるのではないだろうか。
また、気薄になっている日本文化の学びを取り入れること、既存園舎であったログハウスの積極的活用により園舎の継承を取り入れた環境問題への取り組みを行った。以前の園舎に触れる体験は天然素材である木に触れる体験でもある。他者との関わり、文化の学び、園舎の継承の3つの環境と共存する園舎を目指した。
園庭、ピロティ、屋外階段、2階テラスをひと続きの空間とした。建物全体をめぐる動線計画によって点在する個々のあそび同士が交わり、あそびが発展していく。
機能を持たない箱状の空間はあそびの要素を限定しない。子供の創造力を掻き立てるとともに、園庭や既存園舎との視線の交錯が他者への興味を誘発させる。
1階のキッチンに隣接する遊戯室では、畳に座る床座の生活、お膳台で食事する昔の日本家屋における風景をつくりだす。お膳台は配列で様子が変わり、ディスタンスも自在である。日本的な作法、茶道、書道などの保育のベースとなるような空間を設えている。また、既存園舎であったログハウスの材料を遊具（クライミング、迷路、ブランコ）や、ベンチ、塀、サインにアップサイクルし、園舎に取り入れることで、子供たちは遊びながら自然と触れ合う。
保育とあそびが曖昧に共存しながら互いを誘発する、オープンな秘密基地のような園舎を目指した。（五十嵐久枝）
A garden where play intersects in a continuous space inside and outside
Kindergarten is the place where children first come into contact with society. Amid group life, children learn to imitate, learn to be considerate, and build the foundation for their creativity and thinking ability.
At present, however, communication is limited to classmates and homeroom teachers. If children who spend time in the same building can expand their spheres, the true value of “spending time together” will be born.
In addition, we incorporated the study of Japanese culture, which is becoming less popular, and tackled environmental issues by actively utilizing the existing log cabin to inherit the school building. The experience of touching the old school building was also an experience of touching wood, a natural material. The goal was to create a school building that coexists with the three environments of interacting with others, learning about culture, and inheriting the school building.
The garden, pilotis, outdoor stairs, and second-floor terrace are integrated into one space. By planning the flow lines around the entire building, the individual play spaces scattered throughout the building will intersect with each other, and play will develop.
The box-like space, which has no function, does not limit the play elements. In addition to stimulating the children’s creativity, the intersection of their eyes with the garden and the existing school building triggers their interest in others.
In the playroom adjacent to the kitchen on the first floor, we created a scene from an old Japanese house, where people lived on tatami mats and ate on a settee. The appearance of the table changes depending on the arrangement, and the distance can be freely adjusted. The space is designed to be a base for childcare of Japanese manners, tea ceremonies, and calligraphy. In addition, materials from the existing log house were upcycled into playground equipment (climbing, maze, swings), benches, fences, and signs and incorporated into the school building so that children can interact with nature while playing.
The goal was to create a kind of open secret base where childcare and play coexist ambiguously and induce each other. (Hisae Igarashi)
