建築的規制をライフスタイルと調和させた森に佇む職住一体の暮らし

〈深草の工房住宅〉は京都市内にある、木工と漆の工芸作家ご夫婦のための工房住宅である。

クライアントと土地探しからはじめて、数年にわたり何カ所かの候補地で検討を繰り返しながら、最終的にクライアントにより見つけられたのは市街地近くにも関わらず静かで緑の多い場所で、北側には筍畑のために整備された気持ちの良い竹林があり、素晴らしい借景が期待できる敷地であった。

しかしこの敷地の大半は土砂災害特別警戒区域に含まれることや、京都市の景観条例等多くの建築的規制があり、大きな与条件となった。私たちはこれらの規制をネガティブなだけの受け止め方ではなく、逆に、工房住宅が故の要望や周囲の景観条件とうまく組み合わせることでこの風景にふさわしい、クライアント夫妻の生活スタイルに合った職住一体の暮らしを静かに、快適に過ごせる家ができるのではないかと考えた。

敷地面積から急勾配の崖と、条例からくる敷地境界からのセットバック分を除くと、住宅の配置計画はほぼ決まってしまう。さらに土砂崩れが想定される南面（道路側）と東面のGL+1.7m以下には厚さ250mmのRCでつくる土砂の待受擁壁が必要であり、その部分には開口が開けられない。

そこで、この条件を逆手にとり、クライアントが見出した北側の素晴らしい竹林と、南、東側に必要となる待受擁壁を組み合わせ、最大限活かすことを考えた。

まず、容積率を最大限使い切る3階建てとして、建物を東側に寄せて西側を大きく空ける配置計画とし、1階に開口可能な、土砂が来ない西側に玄関を配置した。これにより、玄関へのアプローチのために門扉を開けると正面に竹林が広がる計画となっている。

また、1階の漆工房は安定的な採光が得られる北側に大きく開口を設け、明るい竹林を眺めながら作業ができる空間とした。
次に、木工室である。この工房は工程によっては大きな音が出る。そこで、1階南面と東面の待受擁壁自体を外壁の一部とした。木工室を1階の最深部、RC壁2面に囲まれた配置とすることでRCの防音効果を利用した。さらに、待受擁壁によって限られた開口となった玄関ホール、階段スペースは、照明で明るさをコントロールできるギャラリーとした。

生活の中心となる台所と食堂は2階北よりに配置、吹き抜け空間として竹林に向けて大きく開き、南からの日を受けて明るく照らされる竹や木々が見える気持ちの良い景観の中で過ごせる開放的な空間とした。吹き抜けに面した3階寝室、ホールからも竹林が見える。

市街地近くにも関わらず、森の中でひっそりと佇む、ものづくりに没頭できるような静かな住宅となったのではないだろうか。（髙橋勝）

Living in a forest that harmonizes architectural regulations with lifestyle

“Fukakusa atelier house” is a workshop house for a couple of wood and lacquer artisans in Kyoto City.

After several years of repeated discussions with the client, they finally found a site in a quiet and green area near the city center, with a pleasant bamboo grove on the north side, which is maintained for a bamboo shoot farm and offers a wonderful borrowed view.

However, most of the site was in a special landslide hazard warning area. Many architectural restrictions, such as the Kyoto City Landscape Ordinance, posed a major pre-condition. We did not take these restrictions negatively but rather thought that by successfully combining them with the demands of a workshop house and the surrounding landscape conditions, we could create a quiet and comfortable house for the client and his wife to live together in harmony with their lifestyle, which would be suitable for this landscape.

Excluding the cliff from the site area and the setback from the site boundary from the ordinance, the layout plan of the house is almost fixed. Furthermore, a 250 mm thick RC retaining wall was required on the south (roadside) and east sides, where landslides are expected to occur, below GL + 1.7 m. This meant that we could make no openings in these areas.

The idea was to take advantage of this condition by combining the client’s discovery of a wonderful bamboo grove on the north side with the required retaining walls on the south and east sides.

Firstly, the building was designed as a three-story building to maximize the use of the floor-area ratio, with the building to the east and a large opening to the west, and we placed the entrance on the west side, where it could open onto the ground floor and where earth and sand would not come in. As a result, when the gate is opened to approach the entrance, a bamboo grove spreads out in front of the building.

The lacquer workshop on the ground floor has a large opening on the north side, which provides stable lighting, and is a space where people can work while looking out over the bright bamboo grove.
Next is the woodworking room. This workshop produces loud noises depending on the process. Therefore, the waiting retaining walls on the south and east sides of the ground floor were themselves made part of the external wall. The woodworking room was placed at the deepest part of the ground floor, surrounded by two RC walls, the soundproofing effect of the RC was utilized. Furthermore, the entrance hall and staircase spaces, which have limited openings due to the retaining wall, are turned into a gallery whose lighting can control brightness.

The kitchen and dining room, which are the focal points of daily life, are located on the second floor towards the north and open wide into the bamboo grove as an atrium space, creating an open space where people can spend time in a pleasant landscape of bamboo and trees brightly illuminated by the sun from the south. The bamboo grove can be seen from the third-floor bedrooms facing the atrium and from the hall.

Despite its proximity to the city center, the house has become a quiet residence where you can immerse yourself in manufacturing, quietly nestled in the forest. (Masaru Takahashi)
