千葉県市原市の3人家族のための家である。建て主はプライバシーを守りながら季節感のある、暖かな家を希望された。
東西に長い2面接道の敷地を生かし、建物と3つの庭を計画した。建物は高さを低く抑えた素朴な佇まいとし、庭はメインアプローチの西庭、居間や回廊に面した中庭、勝手口や水回りに面した東庭から成っている。
建物は中庭をぐるりと回れるロの字型で、どの部屋からも緑が楽しめるようにした。水回りや収納は東側にまとめ、短い動線で効率的に家事が行える。基本的な温熱環境を整えたうえで、中庭に面した居間は隣家からの視線を遮り、プライバシーを守りながら冬の日差しは取り込み、風が抜けるように開口部を設けている。等間隔の登り梁からなる大屋根は、四隅の五寸角柱で支持。スパン6mの居間～台所は組み立て梁の一種である重ね透かし梁とし、すべて小断面のスギ製材で構成している。無垢材（スギ、ヒノキ）や珪藻土など自然素材を使っているので、日々の心地よさとともに、経年変化もまた楽しみの1つである。（後藤智揮）
Courthouse that takes advantage of three gardens
A building and three gardens were planned to take advantage of the site with two long east-west streets. The garden consists of a west garden for the primary approach, a courtyard facing the living room and corridor, and an east garden facing the kitchen door and water closet.
The building is shaped like a “square” that wraps around the courtyard so that the greenery can be enjoyed in every room. The water and storage areas are located on the east side of the building, allowing efficient housekeeping with a short flow line. In addition to providing a basic thermal environment, the living room facing the courtyard has openings that block the view from the neighboring house, protect privacy, let in the winter sun, and allow the wind to blow through. The large roof, consisting of evenly spaced climbing beams, is supported by 15cm square columns at the four corners. The 6-meter span living room and kitchen are constructed with small cedar lumber, a type of openwork beam. Natural materials such as solid wood (Japanese cedar and cypress) and diatomaceous earth make the house comfortable daily, and the changes that occur over time are also something to look forward to.
