大パノラマが望める立地に、飲食店との併用住宅をつくるプロジェクトである。
敷地は私の地元、神奈川県足柄上郡。ちょうど実家のある足柄平野を見渡す広々とした高台に位置する。眼下には小さいころから慣れ親しんだ酒匂川、東に目を向ければ小田原の街と相模湾、西は富士山と、私自身の原風景が目白押しである。設計はこの景色をいかに強く享受するか、言い換えれば建築が出しゃばり、この素晴らしい眺望の邪魔になるようなことはしないよう肝に銘じ、計画を進めた。
建物は東西に細長い切妻屋根の平屋とし、その短冊形を南北に貫通する外部通路が住宅と店舗を分けている。この通路は外部ラウンジと名付けて半屋外の部屋としても多目的に利用、かつ両用途の入口も面して相対する構成なので、この建築全体の中心的な場となっている。
建物の設えに関してオーナーのご要望は、極めて素朴で個性的であった。これまでの私の設計経験でもあまりなかったテイストで、オーナーと一緒に手探りで当てはめていった。引き渡しは終えたが、まずは空間のベースになるキャンバスを用意したという所感だ。今後も住まい手がいろいろと手を加えつつ、より面白く、味わい深い空間につり上げてられていくだろう。地元に立ち寄る際には、そうした変化も楽しませていただこうと企んでいる。（遠藤 誠）
A residence and restaurant with a gable roof that overlaps with the landscape
This project is to build a house with a restaurant in a location with a panoramic view.
The site is in my hometown, Ashigara-kami-gun, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is located on a spacious hill overlooking the Ashigara Plain, where my parents’ home is. Below me is the Sako River, which I have been familiar with since I was a child, to the east is the city of Odawara and Sagami Bay, and to the west is Mt. Fuji to the west. In designing this building, I was very conscious of how strongly to enjoy this view, or in other words, how not to interfere with this wonderful view by overbearing the architecture.
The building is a one-story building with a long and narrow gable roof from east to west. An external passageway running north to south through the strip of land separates the residential and retail spaces. This passageway, named the exterior lounge, is also used as a semi-outdoor room for multiple purposes and is the focal point of the entire building since the entrances to the two uses face each other.
The owner’s request for the building’s design was unique and straightforward. This was a style that I had not seen before in my design experience, and I worked with the owner to find the best fit. Although the handover has been completed, we have prepared a canvas that will serve as the base of the space. I am sure the residents will continue adding their own touches to make the space even more interesting and tasteful. I plan to enjoy these changes when I drop by my hometown. (Makoto Endo)
