敷地は地形的に大きな丘の頂きに位置し小高い場所にあたる。間口が狭く奥で幅広になる土地には、かつて古い家屋と広い庭、そして懐かしさと静寂さが残されていた。この場所に見合う建物は、ランドスケープ的、都市的な展開の中で、緑の記憶を継承し時間を感じさせるものでありたい。
小さな単位のハコをひな壇状に積み上げ地形に倣って「丘」のような全体像とし、地上の緑とテラスの草木や樹木が連なって「緑の丘」を連想させる建物とした。気積の異なる複数のハコの組み合わせでできた各戸内部は、段差や天井高さのメリハリのあるひと繋がりの広いワンルーム空間をつくると同時に、一軒家のように複数の庭やテラス、屋上があり、あちらこちらで内外が関わる構成である。
住まい手の皆が共有する中庭を取り巻くように配置された住戸では、それぞれオープンな「内」「外」とプライバシーが保たれた「内」「外」が、グラデーショナルに繋がり庭に向かって生活の場が広がる。お互いが背を向けるのではなく、領域感を保ちつつ程よい距離感で垣間見え、独立性と連続性を兼ね備えた環境を形成する。地面の庭はもちろん住人たちのものであるが、隣家や公道にも開けていて、閉じたコミュニティの場というより、通過動線であり、街との中間領域でもある「だれのものでもない庭」である。樹木や草木が時の経過と共に成長するように、それぞれ工夫のある生活が共存しつつゆっくりと育まれれば、と思う。（若松 均）
A housing complex where gardens are stacked three-dimensionally to create a landscape
The site is located on a small hill at the top of a large hill. The site, which has a narrow frontage and widens at the back, was once home to an old house, a large garden, with a sense of nostalgia and tranquility. The building that best fits this location should carry on the memory of greenery and evoke a sense of time in a greenery urban context.
The overall image of the building is like a “hill,” with small units stacked on top of each other like a podium, following the topography. The terrace and the trees in the garden are connected to form a “green hill” that evokes the image of the building. The interior of each unit is made up of a combination of several houses with different volumes, creating a wide one-room space with varied of levels and ceiling heights, as well as multiple gardens, terraces, and rooftops, just like a house, with a composition of inside and outside here and there.
Dwelling units are arranged around the courtyard shared by all residents, the open “inside” and “outside” and the privacy-preserving “inside” and “outside” are connected in a gradational manner, and the living space spreads out toward the garden. The two sides of the house are not turned away from each other, but rather glimpsed from a moderate distance while maintaining a sense of spaciousness, forming an environment that combines independence and continuity. The garden on the ground belongs to the residents, of course, but it is also open to the neighboring houses and the public street. Rather than a closed community space, it is a “garden that belongs to no one” that serves as a transit route and an intermediate area between the town and the garden.
We hope that the garden will slowly nurture a life of individual ingenuity while coexisting with the community, just as trees and plants grow with the passage of time. (Hitoshi Wakamatsu)
