創業75年を迎えた白水社の新たなワークプレイスを、社名が組み合わさった「泉」をコンセプトにデザインした。
次の時代に向けた旅立ちの源となり、集い帰る場所であり、各々の働く気配を一体的な空気として繋ぎ、共有する場を目指した。泉のほとりに人々が思いおもいに集まり過ごしながら、空間づくりを通した文化創造という私たちの価値を渾々と生み出し続けるイメージである。
旧証券会社のビル建築という東京・兜町らしい個性が残る環境に、「両極のバランス／両輪の連結」というCIロゴに込められたテーマを重ね、空間に落とし込むことにした。新たな空間と建築躯体本来の表情を共存させる「新規と既存」の関係性をつくり、「方形」のエントランスに、水鏡からインスピレーションを得た「正円」のサインモニュメントを配置。旧社屋の建築を写真表現によってアーティスティックに表出し、「これまでとこれから」を想起させる。
執務フロアである1階は、壁で仕切ることをせず、床高でエリアを操作。ひとつの空気感を全体でシェアするも、それぞれの視界が異なることで適度な距離感を生み、身体的なストレスを軽減させる。有機的な表層や予期せぬ仕上がりを見せる素材を採り入れ、躯体環境とも「調和」させるデザインアプローチとした。
対照的に、機能フロアである地下1階は「対比」による空間である。白くシンプルな構成の中で躯体の表情を強調しながら、彫刻や絵画、故倉俣史朗氏の名作など、個性の強いオブジェクトによって空間を表情づけている。このフロアは変化著しい兜町とのシナジーを意図し、街の機能の一部として、ギャラリーやマルチスペースなどパブリックに運用する試みがスタートしている。（宮﨑 翔）
A workplace that expresses cultural creation for the next generation
We designed a new workplace for Hakusuisuisha, which has been in business for 75 years, based on the concept of “fountain,” a combination of the company name.
We aimed to create a place that would be a source of departure for the next era, a place to gather and return to, and a place to connect and share the atmosphere of each individual’s work as a unified atmosphere. We envisioned a place where people would gather and spend their time by the fountain and continue to create our value of cultural creation through the creation of space.
The building was constructed as a former securities company building, an environment that retains the unique character of Tokyo’s Kabuto-cho district, and the theme of the CI logo, “the balance of the two extremes/the connection of the two wheels,” was incorporated into the space. The new area and the original expression of the building frame coexist in a “new and existing” relationship, and a “square” entrance is complemented by a “regular circle” sign monument inspired by a water mirror. The architecture of the former building is artistically expressed through photographic representation, evoking “the past and the future.
The first floor, the office floor, is not divided by walls but rather by the height of the floor. Although the entire floor shares a single atmosphere, the different views from each side create an appropriate sense of distance and reduce physical stress. The design approach ” harmonizes” with the frame environment by incorporating organic surfaces and materials that show unexpected finishes.
In contrast, the basement floor, the functional floor, is a space of “contrast,” emphasizing the expression of the building frame in a simple white composition and giving presentation to the area with sculptures, paintings, masterpieces by the late Shiro Kuramata, and other objects with strong personalities. This floor is intended to synergize with the rapidly changing Kabuto-cho area, and a trial has been started to operate it publicly as a gallery and multi-purpose space as part of the city’s functionality.
