30度の傾きで奥行きと地元の素材で歴史を演出するショールーム

建材メーカーであるサンワカンパニー福岡ショールームを設計した。中洲の商業施設の地下、奥まった一角に位置する。リーシングエリアが廊下（共用部）を挟んだ大きな区画と小さな区画の2カ所であったので、エリア全体が共用部と溶けるような一体的な改修計画を考えた。

まず、小さな区画と共用廊下との境界が分からなくなるように床の素材を同一の素材、同一の角度で仕上げた。また、大きな区画のガラス面をリーシングラインからセットバックすることで、壁やベンチが共用廊下にはみ出しているように見せている。もちろん廊下に商材を置くことはできないが、共用で使用できる家具を施設側に提供し、設置していただいた。その家具を含めて構成要素をすべて同じように30°の傾きをつけて配置することで、廊下の余白を含めた共用部にショールームの一部を擬態化させ、廊下を歩く人が自然とショールームの中に入ってきてしまうような体験をつくった。

大きな区画内部でも、共用部同様に建築の構造体に対して平面的に30°の傾きを設けて壁面を配置している。そのため、直行方向に対して√倍の距離が確保され、斜めに伸びる視線や導線が訪れた人に奥行と広がりを感じさせている。
アートウォールのような自立した壁面には各所にサンワカンパニーの商材が展示され、ギャラリーを巡るようにゆっくりとそれらを体験することができる。
また、サンワカンパニーのタイルによって構成された壁面に混ざって、地元福岡で仕入れた自然素材が顔を覗かせている。甘木の赤土を用いた土壁、有明海で取れた古代貝灰を用いた漆喰、大川の材木問屋で仕入れた樺（カバ）材のテーブルなど、地域性と歴史を感じる素材感を散りばめられている。加えて、廃棄リンゴからアップサイクルされたビーガンレザーやシラス（火山堆積物）と古紙パルプを混ぜた再生セメント板などでつくられた再生材を使用した家具が点在する。
またエントランスのカウンターは15種類のタイルを短冊状に切り取り、色調に合わせてグラデーショナルに並べた。それら散りばめられた素材たちを繋ぐように円環状の照明を浮かべ、緩やかにショールーム内を誘導している。
展示された商材を手に取りながら、サンワカンパニーの追及するミニマリズムの中に潜む奥深いマテリアリシティを感じてもらえると嬉しい。（山路哲生）

A showroom with a 30-degree tilt that creates history with depth and local materials

We designed the Fukuoka showroom for sanwacompany, a construction materials manufacturer. It is located in a secluded corner in the basement of a commercial building in Nakasu. Since there were two leasing areas, a large section and a small section across a corridor (common area), we came up with an integrated renovation plan so that the entire area would blend in with the common area.

First, the flooring was finished with the same material and at the same angle so that the boundary between the small section and the common corridor was no longer discernible. In addition, the glass surface of the large section was set back from the leasing line to make the walls and benches appear to extend into the common corridor. Of course, commercial materials cannot be placed in the hallway, but we provided the facility with furniture that can be used for common use and had it installed. Finally, by placing all the components, including the furniture, at the same 30° angle, we mimicked a part of the showroom in the common area, including the blank space of the corridor, and created an experience in which people walking down the corridor would naturally enter the showroom.

Inside the large compartment, as in the common areas, the wall surfaces are placed at a 30° angle of inclination in plan to the building’s structure. As a result, a distance of √ times the distance in the straight direction is secured, and the diagonally extending lines of sight and conductivity give visitors a sense of depth and expanse.
The art wall-like freestanding walls displays Sanwa Company’s products in various locations, allowing visitors to experience them slowly as if they were touring a gallery.
Mixed in with the Sanwa Company’s tiles on the walls are natural materials purchased locally in Fukuoka. The walls are covered with earthen walls made of red clay from Amagi, plaster made of ancient shellfish ash from the Ariake Sea, and birch wood tables purchased from a lumber wholesaler in Okawa, all of which give a sense of local character and history. In addition, furniture made from recycled materials such as vegan leather upcycled from discarded apples and recycled cement board made from a mixture of shirasu (volcanic sediment) and used paper pulp are scattered throughout.
The entrance counter is made of 15 different types of tiles cut into strips and arranged in a gradation of colors. Circular lights are floated to connect these scattered materials, gently guiding visitors through the showroom.
We hope that visitors will feel the deep materiality hidden within the minimalism pursued by Sanwa Company as they hold the displayed products in their hands. (Tetsuo Yamaji)
