「577脚の椅子：市民の半円形議場」展 12/14まで

東京・亀有に2024年11月にオープンしたSKAC（SKWAT KAMEARI ART CENTRE / スクワット亀有アートセンター）[*後述]にて、フランス人デザイナーのクレール・ルナールとジャン=セバスチャン・ブラン（Studio 5.5共同創設者）によるインスタレーション「577 chairs　The Citizens’ Hemicycle」が12月14日まで開催されます。

出展作家のクレール・ルナールとジャン=セバスチャン・ブランの両氏は、フランスにおけるアップサイクルプロジェクトの先駆者的な存在です。
展示されている〈577 chairs　The Citizens’ Hemicycle（577脚の椅子：市民の半円形議場）〉を構成する577脚の椅子は、いずれもユーズド品。今春のフランス・パリで行われた「Paris Design Week（パリ・デザイン・ウィーク」の期間中、フランス国立公文書館の中庭を舞台に、巨大なインスタレーションとして展開されました。椅子の数・577は同国の国民議会の議席数と同数であり、それぞれがひとりの市民を象徴しています。

日本国内では、今秋の「DEIGNART TOKYO 2025」のうち、「DESIGNART GALLERY」に登場（展示の様子はこちら）。今回はSKACに場所を移し、20脚が展示されています。椅子は試座が可能で、1脚につき40,000円（税別）で販売されています。

再利用素材から生まれた椅子には、「自由」「多様性」「闘い」「平和」「共和国」など、民主主義を問いかける577の言葉が刻まれており、人間味を与えられた椅子たちは、声なき声を可視化し、対話の場を創出する存在である。

この“市民の議場”は、フランス人権宣言の原本を所蔵する「国立公文書館（Archives Nationales）」の中庭にて、パリ・デザイン・ウィークの期間中（2025年9月4日〜13日）に展示された。脅かされつつある民主主義への応答として、人と人とのつながりを再生し、自由を守る象徴的な作品である。

今回SKACでは、同プロジェクトの理念に共鳴し“市民の議場”577席のうち20席を一般に解放し、新たな対話の場を創出している。（以下、英文テキストの一部を抜粋、和訳はSKWAT提供）。

Designers Claire Renard and Jean-Sébastien Blanc, co-founders of 5.5, present a monumental installation: a hemicycle made up of 577 unique chairs, all repurposed, in partnership with leboncoin.

577 chairs, echoing the number of seats in the French National Assembly. 577 chairs, humanized by the designers, like 577 citizens’ voices. 577 chairs, each marked with a word that questions the notions of freedom and democracy — from “diversity” to “struggle,” from “peace” to “republic.”

It is within the main courtyard of the National Archives Museum — home to the original text of the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen — that this hemicycle is installed from September 4 to 13, during Paris Design Week. In response to our fragile democracies, this cloud of words and faces seeks to provoke reflection, to become a space for exchange and dialogue, and to keep our freedoms alive.

For this project, SKAC, resonating with its philosophy, has installed 20 of the 577 chairs in The Citizens’ Hemicycle, creating a new space for dialogue.

JR常磐線の亀有駅と綾瀬駅のあいだの高架下に位置する、ジェイアール東日本都市開発による開発エリア〈ぽちかめ〉に、2024年11月にオープン。多目的なフリースペース＋カフェ[TAWKS]のほか、アートブック専門のディストリビューター[twelvebooks]、レコードショップ[VDS]を内包した芸術文化センター。同所の2Fに拠点を構える、中村圭佑氏が率いるDAIKEI MILLS（ダイケイミルズ）が企画・設計を手がけた。
