〈はくすい保育園〉は千葉県佐倉市にある定員60名の計画である。隣地で特別養護老人ホームを営む社会福祉法人誠友会が事業主として計画が進められた。
計画は「保育園は大きな家である」という考えに基づいている。周囲を山林に囲まれた敷地は南に緩やかに傾斜しており、それをそのまま利用して階段状に保育室を配置した。
この「大きな家」では、例えば3歳と5歳が互いに意識できる大きな1室空間としている。逆に3歳の子供が寝ていて、5歳の子供がそばで遊んでいるといった生活リズムの違いは、ここでは「大きな家」の特徴として捉えている。
部屋にならないことで起こるデメリットより死角を極力つくらないことを優先させ、段差の安全対策を必要最低限にとどめ、運営する中で対応を講じるという、誠友会が特養で26年培われた理念が引き継がれた。
南面と北面に大きく開放できるサッシと斜面した空間を利用した重力換気により、建物に南から呼び込まれた風は林のように林立した柱の空間を高く持ち上げられた北側のテラスへ抜けていく。
南に傾斜した大きな屋根面を冷やす井水散水や屋根から伝う雨を受ける南面のジャブジャブ池は、建物に取り込む風の気化装置にする。建築を環境に対して閉じない計画とした。この保育園で目指している「大きな家」は、この地域にかつてあった農家住宅のようなものに近づいたように思う。
この場所でしか感じられない風や、雨や屋根散水の水が南側の庇から滝になって遊べる楽しみが子供たちの原体験として残ってくれれば嬉しい。（山﨑健太郎）
A gradual nursery where children of all ages live together
“Hakusui nursery schoo” is located in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture, and has a capacity of 60 children. The plan was developed by Seiyukai, a social welfare corporation that operates a special nursing home for the aged on the adjacent land.
The plan was based on the idea that “a nursery school is a big house. The site, surrounded by mountains and forests, slopes gently to the south, and the nursery rooms are arranged in a staircase pattern, taking advantage of this.
For example, in this “big house,” the three-year-old and the five-year-old can be aware of each other in one large room space. But, on the contrary, the difference in the rhythm of life, such as the three-year-old child sleeping and the five-year-old child playing nearby, is considered here as a characteristic of the “big house.
The philosophy that Seiyukai has nurtured over the past 26 years in the special care business has been carried over to this facility: prioritizing the creation of a few blind spots as possible over the disadvantages of not having a room, keeping safety measures for steps to a minimum, and taking action as the facility is operated.
With sashes that can be opened wide on the south and north sides, and gravity ventilation using the sloped space, the wind drawn into the building from the south passes through the forest-like space of columns to the raised terrace on the north side.
The well sprinkler system that cools the large roof surface that slopes down to the south, and the jab-jab pond on the south side that catches the rain that runs off the roof, serve as vaporization devices for the wind drawn into the building. This is a plan that does not close the architecture to the environment. The “big house” that we are aiming for in this nursery is closer to the kind of farmhouse that used to exist in this area.
I would be happy if the wind that children can only feel in this place, and the fun of playing with the waterfall of rain and roof spraying water from the eaves on the south side of the house, remained the authentic experience for the children. （Kentaro Yamazaki)
