この建物は、本陣駅近く外堀通り沿いに位置し、1階に内科の診療所、2階にはメディカルフィットネスを併設している。「ヴェルヴァーレ」はノルウェー語のvelvære（身体的・精神的・社会的な健康、およびそれを目的とした選択や活動）が由来であり、クリニックを治療の場としてだけでなく、地域住民の健康に寄り添う場としたいという院長の思いが込められている。そこで、建築自体も地域の人びとを健康的で前向きな気持ちにさせられるような構えとすべく、積極的に緑を取り入れる計画とした。
軒下の緑は大通りを行き交う人びとを惹きつけ、無機質な都市の街並みに潤いを与える。内部からは寄棟屋根の軒先が景色を絞ることで、木と緑を感じる落ち着きのある空間となっており、人びとはまるでリゾートのような空間で、自然の緑に癒されながら健康増進に励むことができる。緑が茂る軒下空間が内と外の間を取りもつことで、透明性の高いファサードが形成されていながらも、ダイレクトになりすぎず内部の営みが街に溢れ出すことを可能にしている。（田中義彰）
A medical facility with a hipped roof, with greenery under the eaves that brings healing to the city and its people
The building is located along Sotobori Street near Honjin Station, with an internal medicine clinic on the first floor and a medical fitness center on the second floor. “Velvare” is derived from the Norwegian word velvære, meaning “physical, mental, and social health, as well as choices and activities aimed at it.” It reflects the director’s desire to make the clinic not only a place for treatment but also a place close to residents’ health. Therefore, the architecture was planned to incorporate greenery to create a healthy and positive atmosphere for the residents.
The greenery under the roof’s eaves attracts people passing by on the main street and adds a sense of lushness to the otherwise inorganic urban landscape. From the inside, the eaves of the hipped roofs narrow the view, creating a calm space with trees and greenery, where people can enjoy a resort-like atmosphere and improve their health while being healed by the natural greenery. The space under the eaves, lush with greenery, creates a highly transparent facade between the inside and the outside. Yet, it could be more direct, allowing the activities inside to overflow into the city. (Yoshiaki Tanaka)
